do you guys put night sights on all your guns? I have a set of meprolights on my Kahr P9 and I really like them. I am looking at some for my G19, XD 40 and then CZ85. |

Honestly, I have never know why anyone would swap out their sights for night sights. My rationale is that if you are shooting at night it is a good idea to know your target and beyond so you will already either have enough ambient light or a flashlight to light up your target/ threat. If it is too dark to see your regular sights then you should already have a light accessible to use. I know some people will come back with reasons to have night sights but that is my .02 cents.
This is coming from a former 8 year army veteran and a 10 year police officer. Night sights have their place but personally I do not know where. The only reason I have night sights on any of my weapons is they either came with it or because I wanted a better sight picture/ front dot. |

I get the rationale of 'if you can't see the target you dont have business shooting, etc' but I want my sights to be able to serve their intended purpose whenever/however I may need them. Given that it's dark half the time, it makes sense to have sights that work in low light. Secondly, I need to pick up sights quickly and easily, the bigger and brighter they glow, the faster I can shoot.
All guns in my carry rotation have night sights. This also gives me the ability to get the exact dimensions and style I want. The only carry gun I have w/o is the LCP, and if Innovative Arms were still installing tritium sights on them, it too would sport a pair. For a defensive handgun, I don't see why one wouldn't want sights that work well in all conditions in which one could forsee them being used. Why intentionally limit yourself with less functional equipment? Especially something as vital and easily replaced as your sighting system. |

I have HD's for that very reason. I figure muscle memory will serve me better than night sights. If however something goes bump in the night and wakes me up I can see where my pistol is on the nightstand without turning on the light. |

Just took a low light handgun course and was amazed at how utterly useless night sights were.
A white light on the other hand is absolutely invaluable. The only point where I could even see the tritium glow the entire course was in transitional lighting, where the target was lit by some light source and I was in the dark. Guess what I could also see in transitional lighting......the outline of my sights.....perfectly. As a guy who insisted on spending 125 on 6 sets of trijicon HD sights, this eye opener was somewhat disappointing to my wallet/sensibility. The good news is, Trijicon HD's are great sights during the day too. I am however experimenting with fiber optic now, as a serrated front is more crisp to my eyes in all conditions, and having a slightly smaller front sight with a smaller notch in the rear (trying .140 rear with a .115 front) still allows me to pick up the front sight quickly, but I feel more precise with them in the limited shooting I've done so far. If trijicon could serrate their front sight on the HD sight, they'd be perfect for me. I have a feeling about half of my guns will remain with night sights, the other half will have fiber optic. Considering I have two of virtually every gun I own, this works out well. Different sights for different applications, or incase I need to swap it up for the sake of having something "different". |

I don't own a night sight and don't plan on it. ANY sights work fine at night, so I stick with what I like best during the day. |
