So I purchased an XDS 4.0 in 9mm as my new carry pistol. It replaced an M&P 40C, and I am SUPER happy with the switch.
Overall, I am very impressed with the XDS, and I like it very much. One thing I read about when researching the XDS, was that some people did not care for the post-recall trigger. I personally have no issue with it. True, it is not as good as a finely tuned 1911, but I have no problem with it. I will admit that it is a little heavy (the trigger pull weight), but that didn't stop me from shooting it well when I did my part. I have heard / read about the Powder River Precision (PRP) spring kit, that supposedly lowers the trigger pull weight. However, I have heard a mix-bag when it comes to reliability. Seems that the PRP striker spring is weaker and may cause mis-fires from what I've read. Does anybody have any first-hand experience with this spring kit? Is it worth it? Obviously I need 100% function / reliability, as the pistol is my primary carry weapon. Thanks! |

Personally I think messing with the trigger is probably not a good idea. One reason I like the XDS trigger is that it's so Glock-like, and with enough dry firing it will smooth out and get better by itself. +1 When I got mine back after the recall the trigger was rough. Dry firing revealed a noticeable amount of front sight movement when I pulled the trigger- NOT GOOD. I dry fired the snot out of it and it smoothed up to better than before the recall. Not aimed dry fire, just rapidly cycling the slide back an inch or so and pulling the trigger - cycle the slide - pull the trigger. You might get a better answer in the Springfield sub-forum though. |
| I got a new XDS 9mm for christmas. Its trigger is quite a bit heavier than my XDM 3.8 Compact .45. Maybe it will lighten a little with use, I'm not sure. It doesn't really concern me that much though, I wouldn't consider it to be a "bad" trigger and it breaks pretty cleanly. It is a defensive handgun with a decent (not exceptional) defensive trigger. |

I did two XDM triggers with the powder river springs set. I used the "drop in" model. Love it. I can't attest to your model but if it was easy to do with mine.
Try what the others posted with the dry fire. If your not happy with it after some use, then give it a try. |
| I did the PRP kit on one of my two XDS' and there was a difference for the better when comparing the two side by side. I have since done both of them, and I have not had any FTF incidents. Both are in .45 and I don't shoot anything out of them but the defensive loads I use for EDC. |

I put the prp kit and sear in my XDS 4.0. I much prefer that to the original. I did however get light strikes with the prp striker spring and my CCI primer reloads. I switched back to the original striker spring and have not had an issue.
The trigger pull with the prp striker spring is lighter but not worth the light strikes I had on the CCI primers. All in all I like the prp spring and sear kit minus the striker spring. |
| When I had a XDS, my pull weight measured by a digital trigger gauge went from 7lb. 8oz to 6lb 1oz post recall (not the claimed 4.5-5# but an improvement nonetheless). I did not have problems with reliability in that pistol pre/post recall or after prp install. Pistol has since been sold but the PRP spring kit made a valuable difference for the $20 or so cost. |
