Hello all,
I have an XDs in 45. Love the gun. I also love practicing with it. Looking at the design, it does not seem as robust as other larger pistols for obvious reasons. I was curious as to what people have for a round count on their XDs and if they have experienced any wear issues. I'm primarily interested in the 45, but would like to hear about the 9mm as well. Thanks, Steve |
| Less than 500 rounds so far. I will give an update in about a year. Its been perfect to date shoots everything i feed it from factory hollow points to sw home rolled . On a side note i carried my 1911 for the first time in monthes this weekend and thats one heavy bitch , i have grown accustom to the light weight XDs |

Thanks, Steve Based on.......? I am a Glock guy and I have to disagree with that statement. XD pistols are just like every other modern polymer pistol they are reliable and well made. When I have my XD 45 tactical I ended up selling it only because I did not like the grip and trigger mostly but I put not many miles on it but at least 2-3K back when ammo was dirt cheap and a range trip was 500rds with no issues no excessive wear and no breakage. Do not listen to the internets just shoot your damn pistol. |

The phrase "does not seem as robust" is just an opinion. It was also followed by "as other larger pistols". I don't need to tell everyone about the XDs 45. Its knows how small it is and when compared to other 45s, some of its components like the rails on the frame and the takedown lever seem (in my opinion) small and maybe a fracture point.
It takes time for a design to be as proven as your Glocks and for a significant number of people to run high round counts through the pistol to get the data points needed to concluded if the design has a flaw or not. So I was curious as to how far people have gotten in the process. I do shoot my damn pistol, but that doesn't mean I can't be curious about it as well and ask questions. Steve |

Keep shooting then and let us know when it wears out....... I got old pistols with many rounds on them been through wars, passed down, been carried more years than I have been alive and they are still going. Shit breaks even on Glocks they are not made of unicorn bone. To much hype on how long will last than another it is all a load of crap .... One will probably not out last another any significant amount. Yes one occasionally will have a catastrophic failure but 87 others will last longer than anyone will be able to shoot before we give up the ghost.
If you like your XD awesome you do not need the internets to reassure you you got a fine pistol that will probably out last you and me both if you take care of it. |

I'm not looking for reassurance. I'm simply trying to start a discussion about a new design. Yes, Glock and Springfield have been making polymer pistols for a while, but how long have they been making small frame 45s? More specifically, how long has Springfield been doing it? Not long. It doesn't have the track record.
People questioned Glocks at first, but their track record is quite impressive and it proved their design. Companies may have a series of great products, but all designs are slightly independent of their historical production, especially if it a new design concept. Ford came out with their turbo charged V6 and boasted a 16 city to 21 highway fuel economy. The design was new. People jumped on it and used the product and through all these "field tests" found that the engine's theoretical fuel economy was a load of shit when compared to actual data. They average 13 miles to the gallon when the average should fall between 16 and 21. A big swing-and-a-miss for Ford and what they thought their new design could do. I'm just curious if anyone is experience any major design flaws: cracked frames, rails loosening from the frame, etc. I know parts break. If the handle breaks off the truck, no biggie, but if the fuel economy is way off, that's a bigger problem. I'd love to hear that people have 10,000 to 20,000 rounds through the gun and haven't seen any failures. How many folks do you think have achieved that? Not many to my knowledge, but I don't know which is why I'm asking. |
