So, do new models only get announced/released at Shot Show and we're board for the rest of the year or what?
On the flip side, I guess it gives one 11 months to start saving...again.

Sometimes new models are release mid year but a lot of makers wait till shot to show them off and it allows them to get them into production get enough to throw on the market so distributors have pistols that people\LGS's can buy.

SIG announced the 1911 Super Target Nitron and Stainless in September 2014 and I bought mine in the beginning of November.

Great pistols.

Its hit or miss.  Sometimes Shot Show.  Sometimes mid year.  Sometimes they announce and then five years later it actually shows up on dealers shelves.

NRA show is usually in April or May.  Unlike SHOT which is actually an industry trade show, NRA Annual Meeting is open to the public if they're NRA members.  New models have been announced at NRA.  Smith did it with the Shield.  Plenty of other manufacturers have made announcements there as well.  There are rumors Glock may release a single stack 9 this year at the show.  Keep watching around mid April to see what gets released.

I've already see a few of the S&W M&P offerings at my LGS. Just not the one I'm interested in.

Or when the 42 sales slow. The 42 is dead the minute the 9mm comes out.
