Greetings,
I've been searching for a .45 ACP that ISN"T polymer. Can anyone suggest a few quality ones? I have no preference for domestic or foreign. Capacity is important, I realize that most .45s don't come in high cap, but I can deal with that. Looking for personal defense and just plain old shooting. Thanks for your help. |
| Sig probably has the best overall features that fit that criteria. I'm personally not a big sig fan. A double stack 1911 would be more appealing to me. The prices vary quite a bit one those. An RIA would be fairly cost effective, but their base model lacks a lot of features I would want, especially good sights. |

1. P227 or other Sig offerings
2. CZ-97b I already own a sig p226 , kind of sorry I waited so long to buy a sig I had made buying into some internet crap that new sigs made in USA were crap - I should have known better . I really like the look and feel CZ-USA , but I have yet to own one |

CZ 97 - covers your criteria completely! I have the Sig 220 and CZ97B. Sig mags are 8 rounds but you can get 10 rounders which extend below the grip. CZ is 10 rounds standard. I feel they booth shoot about the same. Only bad thing about either is the size of the CZ. It is huge at 38 OZ but the Sig is not small either at 30 OZ. |

I'll zig to everyone's zag and go with a Rock Island double stack 1911. Cheaper than all the others, well made and it has excellent customer support. I would like to try one of those out, which mag pattern do they use? Barring the RIA, the CZ 97b is a sold gun. Too large for some though. The Sig offerings are high quality but I don't really like decockers... So not for me. |

If you want to stay with a steel frame, you are looking at a double-stack 1911, options from STI, Para-Ord, Rock Island Armory, even some old Springfield Armory guns.
If you are willing to go aluminum, Sig Sauer has their new P227 out. Other than that, you are looking at polymer for hi-caps, XD-45, M&P 45, FN, Glock 21. |

This isn't surprising since RI 1911s come with MecGar mags from the factory. |

Steel Witness is an option also... http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii81/dphill15/00210_zps93a76a1e.jpg I always forget about those. Solid gun for the price. I have a 40 that has been flawless. Seriously pondering a 10mm version. |

It shoots great, is very reliable, and as you'd expect from a CZ product, it is very accurate. |

Thanks for all the great replies, I don't have any issues with the polymer handguns. It's just that it seems that the majority of what's available is polymer. I am sort of a traditionalist in that I feel a .45 should resemble a 1911. (Steel) Thanks again. You just answered your own question...get a 1911 and be a happy man. |
