I currently own a G19, G34 and a Kimber 1911 in 9mm.
I really like the overall reliability of the Glocks. I don't have to clean them much and they just go bang every time, and feed what ever junky cheap 9mm ammo I can find. On the flip side, I really enjoy shooting the 1911. I like the single stack frame (I've got small hands), I like the trigger, I like that is is all metal and has a nice substantial feel. I also like flipping the safety on and off (not from a safety point of view, I just like feel of the click when the safety goes on and off). What I don't like about the 1911 is the high maintenance that is required to keep it running. I have to constantly clean it and change the spring all the time to keep it reliable, plus the occasional extractor tuning. So is there something out there that is the best of both worlds?
Is there such a beast out there that I should take a look at? |

May be a little small for what you're looking for though. |

I know you said you were looking for a single stack, but perhaps you should check out a Browning hi power.
It fits all the other requirements, and the grip is extremely thin and ergonomic for being double stack. Plus it looks good and can fit into (most) 1911 holsters. |

I'm in a very similar situation OP, and was actually going to put up a new thread with a poll in the next few days.
the pistols I've found that fit my criteria (full size, metal frame, single stack 9mm) and been debating over are: HK P7 - Striker w/ squeeze cocker Sig P210 - this should fit your criteria, only it's very $$$ Sig P225 & P6 - DA/SA Sig P239 - DA/SA S&W 39XX - DA/SA Kahr T9 - Striker 9mm 1911 - you have this covered There are plenty of smaller pistols too, I just haven't really looked into them since I can't carry where I live. Edit to add, there are a few others I forgot to mention since I wrote them off due to availability, age, price, or that I simply didn't like the way they looked (Tokarev): Norinco Tokarev in 9x19 Yugo Tokarev M70A Luger p38 Walther p5 |

I have small hands and like the BHP, except for the trigger. The 1911 really spoils you for triggers. Quoted:

BHP is thin enough to be single stack even though it is a double stack I have small hands and like the BHP, except for the trigger. The 1911 really spoils you for triggers. I find my hi-power really hurts my hand because the grip is so large (up high) compared to a 1911. CZ 75 "feels" thinner even if it isn't. |

Springfield EMP. Fits all of your wants and desires.
In 9mm it has an alloy frame (hope that's "metal" enough for you). Single action. Thumb safety to flip on and off. Right sized for the 9mm cartridge (no .45 frame and a special magazine to make up for the shorter cartridge). It is a trifle spendy. |
