What up, n-bombs?  I come to you today with a question about DIY grip work.  This is mostly for the guys that have cut and stippled their own grips.  So I spent the weekend stippling and cutting up my M&P. The stippling turned out nice and I wanted to go a step further and cut a divot into the bottom of the trigger guard for my support-side index finger.  This turned out decently as well, but has worn and discolored that area of the frame.  Here are the shots of what I just mentioned (I don't have a proper camera so you'll have to contend with shitay cell phone pictures).  My question is this: what, if anything, did you guys use to get your frame back to it's original (or close enough) black color?

Try oil first.

Also people on the forum tend to read things as if that's what you were saying out loud.  Starting a post with "what's up n-bombs" makes you seem many things, the most charitable of which would be immature.  Just a heads up.

You should put up some pictures of your DIY work with a solid background and better lighting.

Oil and polish it with a finer grit sand paper. 400-600 should help.

I have not, and will not, mess with my M&P grips.  They are already so far above my Glock grips I'm not messing with them.

The glock however, I have messed with.  I probably should have sold it or traded it but I didn't.  I keep trying to "like" it.  I've worked on the finger groove bumps that don't fit my hand (fingers sit on top of the bumps instead of down in the grooves - so they have to go).  I've worked on the trigger guard where it meets the grip.  I added a grip force adaptor to it to help line my trigger finger up with the trigger vs. the slide.  Its better, but not nearly as good a fit as the M&P.  It's a work in progress.  I get some time, I mess with it.

Its yours, do what you feel makes it fit you better.

Yeah, I tried the oil but it just seems to go back to the lighter grey color.  The same for wet-sanding it with fine sandpaper.  Worst case scenario, it'll just break in on it's own.  The groove functions great; it's just not the prettiest.  And M1A, I kinda regret having my G17 cerakoted because now I would totally add index points and undercut that trigger guard, maybe even remove the finger grooves.

Based on my research (I have not yet mustered the cahones to try this) ... polish then black rit dye.... I once heard that to match the texture (of Glocks anyway) you can get a sandpaper that matches the factory 'texture' and tap it in with a hammer.... <<<< LIGHTLY

*THAT'S what I'm going to do... someday.

You sound like me.  I have a Gen 4 G17 I need to do something with.  The finger grooves are gonna go, and the trigger guard undercut is stoopid out of the box.   I also want to hog out the inside bottom of the trigger guard as well, since that's where my finger inevitably drags.

I wonder what bead blasting the whole thing would do?

I undercut a small portion on my MP Shield where the factory "stippling"  was rubbing my right middle finger. I sanded it down and used a felt polishing wheel with some flitz polish and it looks really good. It's smooth and is black in color but more of a dull black but it still looks good, plus it's underneath the trigger guard. Try polishing it and see what it looks like.
