Been thinking about moving from 9mm to 45 acp.
What is a good family 45 that everybody can use?

HK USP45.  We have 2.  My wife loves shooting them.

if you don't mind adding a set of sights, there is always a Glock....I shot a 1911 for about 25years before switching to a G17 and now a G34 for USPSA

M&P's are the softest-shooting poly 45's, and your wife should like the slimmer grip vs glocks and xd's

Okay, was wondering if you were shooting something that had a 45 version already.  I am primarily a Glock shooter, but the 21 and 30 are very thick and tough on some shooters with smaller hands.  My recommendation to you would be to look at the SIG p227 and the HK USP45.

Not trying to turn this into a caliber war thread, but my other recommendation would be to stick with 9mm especially since you want to make sure it is something the whole family can shoot well.

Check out FNX 45. Manual decocker/safety.

G3 30sf or 21sf

G4 30 or 21

My FNX 9 was a soft shooter, great ergos, I suspect the 45 would be similar.

I run the G3 30sf and 21 sf now. I find them to be accurate and good recoil  management.

I love 45 in any manufacturer. 1911 was awesome. I handled a HK 45 tactical, big gun but boner worthy, very sexy.

I would add the M&P to that list, unless he isn't into striker fired pistols.

With today's ammo tech, a 9x19 with the right choice of ammo is on par with a .45 ACP. But I love both and use both as well.

+1

They are pretty easy to handle for smaller hands.

USP45 is the softest shooting 45 IMO

Can you tell us why you're thinking of moving to a less-manageable caliber for your family?

Have you shot the the M&P45? I love my USP45, but the M&P has it beat in softer shooting from my opinion.

So does the FNP / FNX in my experience.

Glock 21 or 1911 would be my two choices.
