Hey guys, just looking to get a new gun and was wondering if anyone had any experience with the FNS-9? I've read a couple reviews and watched some youtube stuff and it seems to be good but I was looking for someone with more than 4-500 rds experience with one. I'm wondering about long term durability. For $550 with 3 mags and night sights brand new, it sure is tempting. I've handled one before and dry fired it and the trigger and ergonomics aren't too shabby. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

the problem you might run into with FN is support. They put out model and don't make mags for them and many models, after a few years are dumped. Some police department somewhere in the US is using the FNS pistols so maybe that will help with longevity. I think it's the Columbia, SC PD. |

The triggers in the one's I tried were total garbage. Must have been a 9 pound pull. Good luck finding mags and with support. Their triggers are known to lock up depending on what model you get. IIRC the mag feed lips are seriously flimsy, but that may be another model I'm thinking of. You should do some serious research before you buy this. Also see what kind of options you have for a holster. I think your better off with a M&P or a Glock... If you get an M&P with a trigger that isn't real good you can always make it damn near perfect with Apex parts. |

I'll pick up the longslide competition model (hopefully with deleted safety lever) once they begin to hit the shelves.
I didn't think the trigger on the ones I've tried was really all that bad, and the competition guys will more than likely soon have pull reduction kits on the way. |
|
While it is a good handgun, I would look at other things over the long run.
Get a Glock, S&W M&P, or Ruger. The customer support will always be there as will an abundance of magazines. Those guns are on more dealers shelves than the FN guns and there are more holster options as well. Spare parts for the others should be easier to acquire. For the price you quote, you can get either of the guns mentioned and a spare 3rd magazine if you shop around a little. |

My experiences with the early FNS 9mms are in line with what he posted (in red). Perhaps FN fixed all of the problems since the pistol was released. |
| The only downside I see with the FNS based on my limited experience with them is the trigger - it's on the level of the M&P, which I would say for the segment have sub-par triggers. And I don't really believe in modifying triggers with aftermarket parts in any gun (except AK's where they need the compliance). You could learn to live with it, but the Glock, XD and a few others have better triggers out of the box. |

I haven't had any lock up issues and that was resolved a while back. To even get it to lock up took effort anyway but it's a moot point now. The triggers smooth out nicely and the pull is somewhat heavy but it's not that heavy. Mine has a real nice clean break and a pretty nice (and short) reset - you can hear it and feel it. I hear trigger upgrades are on the way and that's my only complaint with the pistol (heavy-ish pull) but it's a newer gun and it takes time for the goodies to show up. I've had zero failures in 800 rounds and it's my CCW. I'm not a FNH fan boy but I think it deserves more credit plus it received the 2013 Golden Bullseye award. Oh and the feed lips on the mags aren't flimsy. Dude doesn't even know what gun he's talking about anyway - he even said so. |

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_5_53/130556_FNS_9_one_day__10_000_rd__torture_test.html 10,000 round torture test on a FNS-9 "I just participated in a one day, 10,000 rd. test of a FNS-9. My hands are sore and blistered...and I don't think I ever want to do that again. Results? As close to perfect as you can come. 1 fail to eject on a last shot in a magazine. Rolled the pistol and the shell fell out under gravity. Standing by for questions.." |

Haven't shot one yet but for what it's worth:
Early guns had a thing where you could pull the trigger forward when dead and get the slide stuck until you depress the trigger. All the ones we currently have in stock, I cannot get this to happen so FN must have fixed it. The grips are really aggressive. All the ones I've come across have nice triggers at about 7lbs. All reports seem to indicate they are very reliable guns just like any modern polymer gun Apparently FN's customer service and support suck Since it is a newer/less popular gun, holster selection and mag availability and pricing are very limited |

I got a FNS9 for the LE price on a whim. I put over 1000 rounds through it in a few weeks without a single issue but the trigger on mine was right a 8.5 pounds. In the end I decided it really didn't do anything my M&P or G19 didn't do. Dave Sevigny moved to FNS a few months after I bought mine so I thought some parts/support would start up but I haven't seen much. David |

David I have a stock trigger M&P45C and my FNS-9 trigger is smoother and lighter. I did polish some of the FNS-9 parts to be fair but it's not a bad trigger by any means in my opinion. |

I still have the one of the original ones they sent to the FNH Pro Team.
I've had it for over 2 years and it's got about 8,000 rds on it. No malfunctions...ever. I use it as a carry gun at this point as we all have the newer, non-safety model now. Anything specific you want to know? USSA-1 |
