I want a plain black rear sight, so I was wondering if  the factory rear sight can be installed backwards.

What kind of inherent accuracy should I expect from the factory barrel?

You might be better off blackening the rear sight than installing it backwards.  The rear sight dovetail on a 1911 is usually slightly tapered (will only come off in one direction) so turning it around may screw with things a bit.

The barrel will be accurate enough, frame to slide to bushing to barrel will vary - as with about any manufacturer.  I've never tried to measure groups with mine, but I shoot a ragged hole in the center of the target.

You'd be better off simply replacing the rear sight blade, IMO. Brownells shoudl have exactly what you want.
