[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Help me decide which 45 ? (Page 1 of 2)
|
It's pretty hard to find a better, more accurate out of the box .45 than the 220. I have had 4, now have 1, and just this week got my first 1911. We shall see how it stacks up to the 220. I like the ergonomics and customization capability of the 1911 more, but the 220 is dead nuts reliable and fairly light for a .45. Tough call.
Fuck it, it's ARFCOM. Get both. |

Quoted: Sig. The 1911 is a cute range toy. And a GREAT competition gun. But the Sig might reliably save your life in a pinch & will retain resale value better than many (though not all) 1911s. Meh. I had a 220. Extractor broke. Stuff breaks on everything. That being said, I would rely more on the average 220 out of the box vs average 1911. |

What a load of inexperienced, uninformed twaddle. I trust my life, as do plenty, to 100% reliable 1911s every day. Not to mention I just sold a 1911 for $300 more than I paid for it. I also own a Sig. OP, you have to decide what you want the pistol for. A 1911 will be easier to conceal than the Sig.

I want a non rail tacpac since I saw them for $840 shipped (buds) Will prolly get either a gen4 glock and/or or the new 30s first though My LGS has the non rail tacpac for $1050 . I thought about it but if other places are selling for $840 I won't bite. |

The sig 220 is so sweet and yet i've never owned or shot a 1911. Perhaps I might get the scorpion 220 and look into ordering a Springfield 1911 . I think the Springfield 1911's price is more reasonable... |

The Loaded would be a good model to start on; careful searching and you could probably get into a lightly used one for $650. If you're really unsure about how you'll feel about a 1911, you could always go with one of the Armscor types; Rock Island Armory, Cimarron, etc.. Cheap, reliable, and have an excellent reputation with customer service.

A single-stack 45 with a 5 inch barrel is easier to conceal than a single-stack 45 with a 4.4 inch barrel? Just cause a gun is single stack doesn't mean it is thin or equal in thickness to another single stack. The Sig is a really really chunky gun. 1911 should conceal a little bit better since it is thinner but the muzzle might hit your seat when you sit down. But really both guns will conceal poorly given their size and the pointy beaver tails. There is no reason why the Sig P220 does not have at least somewhat of a staggered magazine. The grip thickness on the gun is huge and such a waste of potential round capacity. That's what happens when you design the gun to play dress up and take interchangeable grips though |

I put money down on my 1st 1911. A Springfield! This is how it looks like. Can't wait to pick it up and caress it http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x458/zippymason/Springfield_PX9109LP_1911__54632133790506712801280_zps6d042326.png Is that the loaded? Nice choice. |

None, go with HK LOL, if you feel like spending more for less. Sig 1911 - $1035 HK USP .45 w/ night sights - $900 I own both a sig and an HK USP 45. The USP shoots smoother and tighter groups every time. |

That's what happens when you design the gun to play dress up and take interchangeable grips though I've been CCW'ing a Sig 220 of some sort for the past 15 years. Pointy beavertails? Never seen that on a P220. Unless you mean the rather rare P220 elite, but no pointy beavertail on my "normal" P220's. Huge grips? Huge compared to a Seacamp? Ever tried to CCW a Glock 21? You do know they make a "thin grip" for the Sig 220?
P220 Thin Grips (BTW that is on a 220 Carry Elite, so yeah, it has that pointy beavertail thing). Oh, and I've seen way more "Dressed-Up" and "interchangeable grip" on the various 1911's that on any other handgun out there. |

The USP shoots smoother and tighter groups every time. unfair comparison. you picked a tarted up, expensive premium version of the sig 1911 vs the basic USP. oh look, a sig 1911, same price as the USP http://www.impactguns.com/product.aspx?zpid=34684 comparing a 1911 to a usp is dump anyways, they are very different guns with different uses. comparing that to a 220 makes more sense. which can be found for cheaper. http://www.impactguns.com/product.aspx?zpid=15513 and if you go into polymer, the FN's and XDm's and Glocks are all cheaper and just as good. |

I compared it to the model OP wants. And that is not the basic model. As it clearly states it has upgraded night sights. As for the FN, XD, and Glocks. I've shot all three. FN had to be babied with the ammo you fed it, XD was to light and to gave excessive recoil, and the Glocks don't have nearly as tight of a group and look like a brick. I Don't have a problem with anyone liking any of these guys, but based on my actually shooting experience, the HK hands down shoots the smoothest, and has the tightest groups of any hand gun I've shot. And it has never had any malfunction. I'm not trying to turn this into a bashing rant on every other gun, there are lots of good options out there, but don't be narrow minded and hate on an elite gun manufacture. |

Hk doesn't really even cost that much more. Hk costs about $300 more than a comparable pistol from the other brands. Thats about 3 range trips. BFD. $300 premium doesn't make anything elite. A Premium gun is a $4,000 custom 1911. Not a $850 P30. Point being that it is in the same price class as far as I am concerned. When it is time to get a handgun, take about $1200 with you, and get as much gun, holster, ammo, and mags that meet your needs. Start factoring in range memberships, ammo, and training classes if you take your defense seriously, and the cost difference in the pistols really starts to become insignificant to the point that anyone thinking they are buying something inexplicably more elite for a $300 becomes laughable. |

I carry a "NM" prefixed Springer in the winter months and trust my life to it. It has more rounds thru it than any other pistol I own, and I shoot/train a lot... Our GI's only carried 1911's in service and combat for over 70 years....... |
