We got our new duty weapons at work last week. They are the Gen4 Glock 22's. I must say, I absolutely LOVE the new grip texturing and the backstraps. I use the Medium beavertail grip adapter on mine and it's great. I seriously am considering trading my M&P9 for a Gen4 Glock 17.
Yes in ARFCOM fashion I'd love both, but don't have the money budgeted to purchase a pistol so I'd have to trade unfortunately lol. |

My small Dept got Gen4 G22s last year for issued duty guns. As with you, I LOVE the grip! I thought that the smaller caliber frames (9mm, .40 sized) fit me well before. With the Gen4 enhancements, it makes the Gen3 and older frames feel bad. Even though my hands are big enough that I can (and did for 20 years, till we got the G22s and went with issued guns instead of personally owned) comfortably shoot and control a 2nd Gen, full-sized frame G21, I think the new G22 feels best with no additional backstrap. Feels like it was made just for my hand. If I had the $$$, I'd replace my older guns with Gen4 guns. Good luck, the Gen4 guns (in .40, anyway) seem to be working very well and should serve you very well.

They make a beaver tail backstrap? And they're including them with the gun. Or so I've heard. They do make a beavertail backstrap you can purchase too. Where the heck are they for sale? My google fu has yielded just the non-Glock factory beavertail add on that look like crap. |

I'm one of the few who shoot on their own off duty, and this makes me wanna shoot even more!! Darn expensive ammo!! I'm sure that nobody at my department has as many rounds down the tube of their Glock as I do. I can shoot a reasonable amount of department ammo.... but I ended up buying my own 9mms and reloading to make it cheaper. |

I LOVE shooting and training, but between family and ammo costs, even with reloading, I haven't shot anywhere near as much the past few years or so, and my groups prove it. I hope to remedy that this summer, we'll see how it goes. Another Gen4 benefit I forgot to list is the recoil reduction from the dual recoil spring setup. Now, .40 recoil isn't that bad, but it is sharper, more abrupt and more obnoxious with more muzzle flip than 9mm or .45. Not uncontrollable, by any means, but not as pleasant to shoot. With the dual recoil spring setup in the Gen4, that largely, for me anyway, went away. I find the recoil in this G22 very comparable to the recoil with my Gen1 G17, just as controllable and just as shootable. Good job, Glock! Bub75 |

As far as I know, the factory Glock backstraps are only available with the gun right now, not as individual items. And they're only coming with very recently made guns, and not on all models yet. The 17 I bought a couple of weeks ago came with them (test fire date March 7th) but a 19 at a local shop with a test fire date of mid-March did not have them. I've seen thread on other forums where folks have contacted Glock to try and order them, only to be told that Glock isn't even shipping them with the pistols yet, so even some of Glock's own people aren't aware what's going on. I'd guess they'll probably be showing up with more models in the near future, and would be available to buy seperately within a few months. |

Shot a P229, USPc, M&P40 and G23 Gen 3 and did not care for them at all. Glock got it right with the dual spring. |

Once the backstraps are for sale separately, Robar is going to be losing some business... Not at all. The backstraps bring the gun back to gen 3 size AND they push your hand down, ie raise the bore height in relation to the web of your hand. It is a trade off since many will argue that the beavertail makes the grip more controllable. Also, for anyone wondering, these are for sale through Glock direct. You have to call or email to get an order form. |

My Gen4 17 with the smaller beavertail is the same size as my Gen3. I really like the smaller size of the naked Gen4, but the beavertail is money. |
