I want one. My Shield 9mm needs a big brother but in order to get one I have to sell my FNX9. thoughts? Oh and If I did go for it should I spring extra for the VTAC 9mm?

You should not spend extra for the VTAC.

I have the basic M&P 9 FS and I love it. I got rid of the shield because I wanted one so bad...

i have a full size m&p 9 i put the apex duty carry kit in it and it shoots amazing just get one with out the fancy safety features so you can put a ram in it easier. I have shot glocks and sigs and with the upgrades i think it is prob one of the best pistols made minus the three dot sights and its not a 1911

So no on the external thumb safety?

Have a M&P 40 with APEX kit.  Awesome, and now with a 9mm barrel finally found (even though I can't find 9mm magazines) I can shoot both 9mm and .40.  No experience with FNX9, but with the trigger kit the M&P 40 shames even my PPQ.

As sick as the VTAC looks, even one I've seen on the internet who has got one has had to send the gun back because the sights crapped out on them. Not sure if they ever fixed the problem. If you have the $$$ and like the FDE, than go for it but be aware you probably will have to replace the sights with something that actually works

not the VTAC

full size, but if you want it for CCW, the compact

Thumb safety is up to you. I like it - it's placed well and has a reasonably positive click to it. Others prefer the pistol without it.

The pistol is well built, comfortable, comes with good sights, 17 round capacity, etc. - the only gripe I have with it is the stock trigger sucks. APEX parts (they have a bunch of different options) will fix that though. I've got the FSS kit in mine and it is very nice.

If you have a 1911, get the TS. Otherwise, no

I have a 1911 but it is more of a range toy than anything else.  I am going to try and sell my usp 45 first as it is just to big for my hands hopefully I can and than will finance the gun and accessories

thats up to you but the ram isn't compatible with a thumb safety model at all but the carry kit will work fine

Alright what is the ram and cary KIT?  I know apex makes them but what do they do

RAM makes the reset very distinctive, DCAEK reduces the trigger pull weight and I think the over travel.

APEX Kit

Just bought a 4.25" Pro model. It has a lighter trigger than the standard to begin with so I can't wait to see what the APEX kit does to it.

eta: dropped the RAM and fully machined sear in my Pro a couple of hours ago. A distinct improvement to be sure.

I prefer the non-safety version, the newer ones have a much better trigger and the Apex will only make it better. I like the stock trigger for the most part but I'm interested to try the DCAEK and seeing how it works.

I agree, the VTAC isn't worth it, upgrading the base model to be what you want is money better spent.

Think I will trade my fnx in on the m&p. I like the vtac But not sure I want to spend the extra money for it

I strongly encourage you to get the m&P 40  and add Apex parts and a 9mm barrel/mags.  Right now (ball) 9mm is MORE than .40 in many places IF you can find it....I have had no trouble finding .40 to the tune of nearly 4000 rnds in the last month.

I just don't like the 40 that much.  And I have plenty of 9 stock piled. I will probably go for a basic 9 and get apex parts for it later

I got the Apex sear and the trigger spring for my shield, than I did this.

I kept the original sear and did not modify the Apex sear. Trigger is awesome now.

Just picked up an M&p 9 for $475. Gonna be a while before I can get the apex kit but I am happy with the price.

This.  I have 3 for the .40, but now that I have the 9 barrel I can't find a single 9mm Magazine under $70, and that's for 10rounders on Ebay.

Other then the sights what's the hate  with the vtac? There are a lot of people saying they heard the fiber optic falls out but I think that might be Internet folklore
