I bought some mags off the internet that were advertised as HI-Powers, and they match my other mags EXCEPT they are about 3/16" shorter from the top of the mag latch slot to the top of the magazine. These will lock in place but the round sits so low that the slide never hits or strips the cartridge from it! Any ideas of what I've got?

Are you really trying to load these mags in a Browing Hi-power or a FEG branded copy? The reason I ask is because I had a FEG style, P9R pistol and experienced the same exact problem with Mec-Gar magazines... I sold the FEG because parts were a bitch to find and so were mags, making the gun next to worthless to me... |

Yep, you guys are right! I was trying them in one of the FEG P9HP! Tried them in my old WWII BHP and they worked like a charm! Once again the "Hive," has delivered! That sucks! I didn't know where to get replacement mags for the FEG's so I gave up on them. Hopefully you'll locate some. At least you have a use for the HP mags... Good luck finding FEG compatible mags. |

First, post a pic of your pistol so we know what you're working with as "FEG P9HP" is not an accurate model number. You'll also need to read this before you start suggesting Hi Power mags won't fit a P9 / first model FEG PJK-9HP, a P9M / FEG second model PJK-9HP or the late P9M / third model PJK-9HP, when what you're apparently referencing is double action P9R patterned more or less after the S&W 59, but with a colt/browning locking system. The latter are FEGs but they are not "FEG Hi Powers", Hi Power mags will not work and the bad news is that FEG factory mags are about the only guaranteed option for the P9R. All of the PJK-9HPs will accept standard hi power magazines, the first model is a true Hi Power clone with 100% parts interchangeability and the second model differs only in the slide stop used. The third model uses a S&W style operating system as is not, internally, a Hi Power, but the Hi Power mags still work just fine. P9/FEG nomenclature |

As one of the early replies suggested, I would have to have the factory original maga and FEG went bankrupt in 2004 as I understand! Time to give it a good trading! |

That is all my FEG was good for, trading. My FEG was the one patterned off of the S&W model 59, and a real bastardized version of that I might say. It was my first pistol and although it was a little hard for me to trade because it was my first pistol and all; it was a good lesson I learned. I will never ever own any firearm that is not standard, as in, containing parts that are not easy to find and readily compatible to install and replace. It was a cool pistol though OP... |
