How does one get the slide off of one of these made back in the 1930s or so? I found the catch in the triggerguard but can't figure out how the slide comes off. Thanks in advance. |

Faris I am working from memory here because it's been so long since I've shot it. It was reliable *enough* but shoots minute of pie plate at 15-20 feet and extremely low and to the left. All rounds at say 15 feet would be between 7 and 8 o'clock. I know I can drift the rear sight a bit... but the elevation is what is getting me. It's like that with any loads I've tried with it. Samson, UMC, Winchester and some higher priced hollowpoints. And the reloads that came with it (I inherited the pistol) With the exception of the funky controls (don't like the fact that there's no slide release, just whack the mag in and that's what closes it) and it shooting like it does (and the fact that it's a .380), I'd consider using it as a pocket pistol. |

On most guns you could file the front sight down slightly, but on a Mauser HSc design, the sight is already very low to start with. Other options are to make up a new higher rear sight, OR shoot lighter bullets, which should shoot higher. The trouble with some small, fixed sight guns is, if they are radically off target, you're kinda screwed. It's possible a good pistolsmith could correct the targeting, and possible improve the accuracy, but you'd have to decide if it's worth it. |
Not a GD thing. Slide won't go forward for shit. Something's not aligning up for the slide release, no doubt. Safety off, yes? |

If that didn't do it, I'd suspect something is wrong. Find a gunsmith and let him try. DON'T FORCE ANYTHING. Try this: Open the slide until it locks open. Insert a magazine and left the slide run forward. Pull the trigger to drop the hammer. Remove the magazine. Put safety OFF. (up). Press the catch down FIRMLY. (Use a punch if you have to). Push the slide firmly forward. (It won't move very far). RELEASE the catch in the trigger guard. Pull the slide UP and back. |
