Which pistol would you get. This will be my first handgun so I want something decent.

That's an ODD group of choices... such different pistols.

I'd say Glock17, but I wont vote, since I'd never recommend the "C" version.... get the basic G17.

out of these?  There is really only one answer;  HK USP.

True, True.

+1

No Compromise.

Definitely the Kimber 1911

seriously though, out of the given choices it would have to be the HK.

USP.  I tried to like the G21 I bought, but I couldn't.  I replaced it with a TLE/RL II and a Beretta 92 Elite -- I already had the USP covered with a USP45 fullsize.

Get the one you shoot the best.

What are you going to do with it? Range? Carry?

As someone who owns three of those listed, I really believe those are all great guns. There are some positives and negatives to each. For example, if you are going to carry, I find the beretta and glock are too big. I would also eliminate the 17C because the compensator will blind you at night if used for self-defense. The HK is a great all around pistol (perhaps the best ever) but for range work only I'd pick something else like the Glock or Beretta. I have a neutral opinion on the Walther. One other thing to consider is the caliber and the price of ammo. Maybe I'm cheap but I find myself shooting my 9mms more than the others just because it's less expensive and I can practice more.

Having said all that, if I could only have one handgun the best all around, multipurpose pistol is the HK in my opinion.

My first choice is the USP Compact in .40 or 9mm. I already have a box of unidentified 9mm ammo, but I have heard it's worth getting the .40. I've never shot the USP or the P99. However, they both feel the most natural just holding them. I didn't even think about the compensator on the Glocks at night. Duh. I'm not that much of a Glock fan, but it is a simple and reliable gun with super high caps available. Not only that, if I got desperate, refurbs are about $300 in good condition at the local Scheels with a 30 day money back guarantee.

USP.  Second is Glock 17.  The 17C isn't my cup of tea.

Sounds like you need a USP.

As far as the .40 being better, thats a matter of conjecture. Like the weapon, you should use what you shoot best. While the .40 may have a slight advantage in stopping power, you would be better served with the 9mm if you are more comfortable with it and practice more.

Again, for what it's worth, after years of shooting various pistols (and still owning many "gun snob" pistols) I carry a glock 27.

I said GLock only because it was the best of your choices, all of which Im not very fond of.  If it was me I would be looking for a Sig, Browning/FN Hi Power, or a 1911.

of your choices: HK compact

like splanchnic said: range? carry?
if its for range and you are on a budget, get the glock 17; go w/ the G-19 if you plan on ccw

h/w i like the 1911s myslelf

HK would not be a bad overall choice

HK USP . I like the 1911 style safety , the recoil reduction spring and the overall  tight fit of the gun.  All the controls are easy to reach and big enough to work easily too.

HK, I already own a Beretta and a Glock. I'd like a Walther but it's way down the list.

Get the Glock 17 and an Evolution 9 silencer from AAC.

[#17]
I want a light compact so I think I decided against the Beretta. I doubt I'll be able to get a silencer seeing as I'm only 20. This will be my first handgun I actually own in my name, so I want something decent. I may have to go with a refurbed Glock just because the price is right. I'd like the H&K but I'm a little low on funds at the moment and would like to get something soon. Hopefully I'll be posting pics here in about a week. Thanks guys.

Why not a G19? Best carry package for 9mm IMO. Small and light with a full sized grip and full (15) capacity. HK is good but I can't stand the compacts. Don't fit my hand.

HK.  No question.  End of story.

That is a tough choice. I have the same dillema, I want to own all of those, maybe even the Glock, but I don't know which I want first. I voted P99 becuase that's what I plan to get first.

BTW you should have listed Kimber 1911

Either a Glock, the G19 or a SIG P226. You can get a refurb Sig also.

I decided to go with the Glock 17 refurb. Not a C model though. I figured it wasn't worth saving for the H&K. I could get an AR for the prices they get. Anyone got any reccomendations on where to look for wear and overstressing? Don't know much about Glocks so any help would be appreciated in what to look for.

I say Glock 17 without the comp.  You do not want hot gassess blowing back at your face.

I like my HK usp 40.  I guess a compact would be good also.

Glock might be good, but I can't say yeah on that.  My dad has a glock 40 cal, but do not know the model.  Light weight.
