Many of you read my FDE G19 review recently and the G19C is almost the same gun but with a compensated or 'ported' factory barrel.   The colored items below are going to be specific to the C model, the rest will apply to both the G19 and G19C.

Pros:
-Reliable (I address the recent issues in the video below)
-Accurate (more accurate than 99% of the shooters that own one)
-Durable (many reports of these guns going over 100,000 rounds with only a spring change)
-Easy to maintain
-TONS of aftermarket support
-Accepts 15, 17, and 33 round factory magazines
-Small enough to carry, but with a 15 round magazine
-Glock's customer service is second to none
-Durable finish
-Cheap replacement parts, should you ever need them
-Low Bore Axis resulting in a relatively soft shooting gun
-Easily modified to fit the shooters' preferences-Requires very little cleaning/lubrication to run reliably (that said, clean your guns!)
-Muzzle flip and perceived recoil are minimized allowing for faster follow up shots; although the G19 is a mild recoiling gun as it is

Cons:
-Recent erratic ejection issues (I had one of these guns but Glock replaced it free of charge)
-9mm Glocks are susceptible to 'limp wristing'  (most semi-auto 9mm guns are however)-Comes with a serrated trigger (I'm not a fan)
-The C model is much louder
-The ported barrel may make your front sight turn black (mine doesn't seem to but I've seen others that do it after 2 or 3 rounds)
-The ported barrel causes a slight (depending on the round) decrease in muzzle velocity

Here's a video with some shooting from the 12m line, a shot timer demonstration (of the muzzle flip), a table top review and discussion, a chronograph test with some popular defensive loads, and some shooting from the 30m line:

I have a 23C and god damn if it isn't loud, but i've fired over 100 rounds in one range visit and the front sight was still white as ever (I know thats not alot compared to most of you guys but I'm poor and like to shoot a few rounds from all my handguns when I go). Also muzzle flash was negligible with my hp's.

I don't know this for sure but I'm guessing Glock changed the angles of the ports at some point.   Like I said earlier––I've seen some C models just spew carbon all over the front sight while others don't.   I suppose I'm just glad mine doesn't....

Thanks for the review, it's really nice to get lists of pros/cons like this.

Is there risk of damage to hearing if you had to use a ported gun like this without hearing protection?

You WILL damage your hearing with any firearm with out hearing protection.

What would the difference be in decibel levels between a 19 and 19c? If it's a big difference, the risk/damage could be much greater.

Nice review, informative and well done.

My uncle had a gen2 G19 that was ported by Magnaport, back in the day.

It would have been interesting to compare them side by side. (Glock's and Magnaport's porting work)

JxsonRaine:

Handguns with ported barrels typically are very noticeably louder and have more muzzle flash (but less recoil.)

Does the GEN4 obviate the need for the C models?

I don't think so.  I have both Gen3/4 G19s and don't notice a difference in recoil.   I think Glock just hasn't made a Gen4 version because the C models are slow sellers and they're trying to get the best sellers out first.

I would think that a ported 9mm pistol might actually recoil DOWNWARD. . . . .

my favorite pistol period is the g19c.  The already mild mannered shooting 9mm is almost like cheating with a "C" model.

I made the mistake of firing my 17c without ears once, I just wanted to see how loud it was.  As soon as i fired my ears instantly pinged and stayed that way for some time. It's a loud hand gun...i'd never shoot it again without ears.

Thats a good looking gun. And about the hearing protection thing, I cant even fire a 22 handgun without protection. When I was 17 I had to put down a cow and went and grabbed a 357 and didnt grab ears. I was taught better than that but totally skipped over them, now both my ears ring constantly. So needless to say im a big stickler about ear protection now, I dont swing a hammer without hearing protection. So im wondering if maybe the C version of the glock wouldnt be that good of a choice for a ccw because of the fact that it is much louder than the non C version.

Now imagine doing that in an enclosed room or building in a HD situation.  The over pressure I think would disorient the shooter and make it hard to function almost like a flash bang going off.

I have a G19C but was given a non-ported barrel that I mostly use now.  The recoil is less with the compensated barrel but it isn't *that* much to me anyway.
