I am looking to make my next handgun purchase and I think I have it narrowed down to either a Springfield MC Operator or the FN 45 Tactical. Which one should I get? Both is not an option at the moment. I just cannot decide. The Springfield would be my first 1911 but the FN is a great looking pistol and from what I have read online a great gun. I am a little concerned about some scattered reports about bulged brass from the unsupported chamber on the FN. Any replies or insight is appreciated, as are pictures if you got em |

I'd get the FN (never shot one, only played with one if a gun shop) because I had a bad experience with my Springfield MC Operator.
Because everyone is going to ask: The MC Operator started having fire control problems at around 800-900 rounds, had a local smith look at it and found out that several internals were wearing out prematurely. I had the parts replaced and then sold the gun off. Would Springfield have fixed the problem? I'm sure that they would have. I just didn't think that a $1000 should have had problems that early on and I didn't want anything to do with it at that point. |

if u search you can find people with issues on both sides of the fence .. SA has a track record of fixing and getting back to most people in 1-2 weeks, all expenses paid, and most people get more work than they sent in for... that kinda customer service means a lot to me.. also that its not to original owner means they have a lot of faith in their products..
i vote operator .. especially because 1911s hold value better should you ever change your mind, and I just got my first 1911.. i can tell you its ADDICTIVE .. i literally have looked through the few guns I have looking for what I can sell to get another 1911 and ive only had this one 4-5 days .. im hooked.. and it carries better than any of my other guns that are lighter etc, just feels more natural, i learned im one of "those" people.. i may be making teh entire switch over to just 1911s and revolvers |

What's the intended use? The 1911 will be much better suited for concealed carry. The FN would be a better nightstand gun. If you want to play with toys like a can or a red dot sight, it's already set up for it.
I've got a 1911 collection and bought the FN about 6 months ago. I think I've had it to the range maybe twice and will probably end up selling it because it just seems like a gun I can't actually do much with. |

The 1911 carries better and has a much more historically significant place if that is of interest to you. Personally, I prefer the 1911. |
| I was thinking along the lines of a home defense/SHTF type of gun as my daily carry is a G19. So if I am ever carrying the pistol it will most likely be on my war belt. I do realize the history of the 1911 and that is part of the reason I am considering it. As for becoming a 1911 convert I think that will happen no matter what! The 1911 I REALLY want is the Colt Special Combat Government (model# 01970cy) but it seems to be pretty unobtainable. I most likely will not use a RMR on the FN, I just think it is a great looking pistol and I like the idea of 15 rds of .45 goodness. I am trying to diversify my collection an get something other than glocks. |

I think before you do go buy one, go feel both if possible.
I wanted one of the FNP-45 Tacticals so badly. I went to the store with my brother to fondle one for a bit. I have small hands, and the FN was just too big and bulky for me to get a good, comfortable grip on. As much as I wanted to like it, I couldn't. The 1911 on the other hand, I absolutely love everything about it, and it is my carry gun. With slim grips on a full size 1911, I can comfortable grip the gun, and shot it well. Overall, I would much rather have the 1911 of the 2 choices. As others have said, intended use really plays a role. 1911 would be much better for carry, FN more for night-stand duty with a weapon-light. Good luck either way. |
| Thanks for the replies but regardless of which gun I buy it will have a light attached and serve as a dedicated home defense weapon. So being hard to carry is really not a concern as that is not its intended purpose at least not daily. It will see some holster time on a drop leg set up on my warbelt but that's about it. |

HK45. ![]() The HK 45 would be a world beater if it had a trigger as good as the FNP-45. I own both and feel qualified to make that statement. As it is I do not understand how HK can justify their price for a weapon with such a poor trigger. And no, I'm not even remotely interested in the LEM trigger. OP, both are good choices, but are very different. I know that if I could do it all over, I would never have gotten the FNP-45 or the HK 45, I would just spend the same money I spent on those two and gotten a Dan Wesson Valor, and been done with it. |

Out of the two, the SA 1911. I don't own a FN but looked at one a couple of months ago when I was looking for a host for my Ti-Rant suppressor. Since I haven't fired one I can't say if I would like it or not, but I am a 1911 user so I can definitely recommend one of those.
If you're looking for a tactical pistol for suppressor use I would recommend the HK USP .45 Tactical. I ended up finding a used one. It's a big-ass gun but I believe it's comparable to the FN Tactical. |
