I'm thinking about a S&W 500 with the 8 3/8 inch barrel in the near future. I stopped by my dealer last week to get a price, and it turned out he had one in stock. The tag on it was $789, but he said he would go $750. I thought they were selling for around $850 but this is the first one ive seen not on the net. Is this a good deal or just the normal going price for these?

That's an OK price for the 8 3/8".  Lowest I've seen is around $720, but that took some looking around.

They are on sale for $729 at Vances Guns here in Cols. OH, and listed in an ad they recently published.  I can shoot you the phone number if you're interested.

35 cents reloading.

I payed $720 for mine, which I consider a good deal.  I haven't seen any cheaper than that, and it was on sale 10% off.

Typically around $2 a pop for quality factory ammo.  I also load with fresh Hornady brass and bullets, which comes to about 80 cents a pop, not including powder and primer.

The price is fair. That's only $25 over my dealer cost plus shipping.  I suspect he is a motivated seller and wants to turn his inventory into something else.

My dad and my boss just purchased one each and paid $750 here in St Louis, MO. The best I could find anywhere in this area.
