I've recently gotten two handguns with solid black front sight blades. While shooting at a shoot-n-see black target, the front sight just disappears for my 53 year old eyes. The cheap fix for this os to paint the front sight with a color such as white, red or orange.
My question is, I may want to remove said paint down the road & thus don't want it to be permanent. Should I use something as simple as White-out? Or would fingernail polish work as it will come off with polish remover? I can't swap out the front sights on either pistol for a variety of reasons, so painting is my only real option. Thanks for any & all replies. |

I would get some flat Testors model paint. Finger nail polish would be too shiney. It will come right off with thinner or fingernail polish remover (acetone) Hmmmmmm. This sounds like what might be best. Flat paint won't be shiney & reflect sun glare, IMO. I think I'll use white paint in order to contrast the most with the black target background. Pink isn't really my style, Sat night or not.................

| Also try red, yellow or orange and see which you like best. If you don't have a white dot to paint around, it is pretty simple to do the blade. If you decide to do some colors, put white on first and that will make the other colors a little brighter. I painted the blades on all my sights and think it helps a LOT with picking up the front sight. Hard to do with night sights, but it works well once it is done. I use Testors paint, haven't removed any, but it should come off easy with thinner. |
