i was lookinat one of these at the gunstore.counter guy said it is more reliable and will out last any out of the box 1911.is he pulling my leg

They are average, nothing more. If he's lying about this, he'll lie about other stuff too, IMO. I'd never give him my $$$$ for this line of BS.

Stick with the usual suspects on the 1911 front: Colt, Kimber, Springfield, S&W & (now) Sig. Another good clue is which mfgrs have their own forum sections in here. Star ain't one of them.

The Firestar's are some neat little pistols and are reliable, but not as reliable and long lasting as what he's trying to claim.

Also note that Star is no longer imported, I think they went out of business and merged with another Spanish company, and even when they were imported spare parts and magazines were expensive.

I've got a Firestar, but in 9mm. It's a great little gun, pretty accurate and very reliable. I wouldn't compare it directly with a 1911 because it's not a 1911, it's a totally different gun. If the price is good I'd buy it.
