I used to live in Montana where we had lots of bears and cats. I have since moved to Az where that is much less of a problem. I have a stainless Taurus tracker 44 mag that I never shoot. I am thinking of selling and reallocating  a glock 19 or 23. Something that I would shoot more and would have more function. I want a ccw gun that has a bit more capacity than what I currently carry.
Any thoughts guys?

My thought is that a Glock 19 is a much better choice than a .44 magnum.

I second this, but I would check other pistols too like the M&P, the FN FNX/FNP, HKs, etc.

Keep the magnum and save up for a used Glock.

Don't you have mountain lions in Arizona?

Get a Glock 10mm.

No sense in owning something you're not going to use when you could use and would like an upgraded carry weapon, trade or sell off the Taurus.  If it were an older P&R Smith 29 I'd agree with Furyataurus and say keep it but a Taurus Tracker .44 isn't in that league.  One thing to consider is the fact Taurus typically doesn't hold value as well as a S&W revolver, and as long as you're aware of that go tradin' and be happy...

I like a 3" S&W 686 .357 for hiking/camping. When I lived in MT I carried a 4" 629 .44mag in the back-country. I'm not a 9mm fan for wilderness carry. In fact, I'm not an auto fan for that at all, but if I was it would be 10mm.

ETA: for CCW I use 9mm. I don't consider it wildlife protection though......

I don't go places where a 44 is necessary anymore. I have other calibers that would handle the wilderness here. My finances are tight and I just hate owning something just to say I have one. It truly serves no purpose here.

I regret selling 99.9% of the pistols I've let go over the years.  Take your time.

Oh really? If/when SHTF already having a 44 mag that you are accustomed to shooting will be advantageous to you when you come across 44mag ammo. I have a 357Sig barrel for my HK USPC with only 600 rounds of 357Sig ammo compared to 1000 rounds of .40 S&W as my primary caliber.

IT DOES NOT HURT TO HAVE A BACK-UP.

Would you rather come across 44mag ammo with no weapon to use it in or come across 44mag ammo and have something to use it in?

In a shtf situation what would I be more likely to come across? 44 mag or 9mm?

Yes.  We also have bears but they are blackies not browns.

I personally can't stand Glocks, but if the OP likes them then a 10mm Glock is a pretty good choice for a do-everything gun here in AZ.

Just to clear... The g19 that I am considering is not to take the place of the 44. I have other guns that will do the trick in the wilderness. I am considering getting rid of a gun I dont use and purchasing one that will get used.

44mag since 9mm is too commonly carried than 44mag. I don't have a 44mag so I wouldn't touch that ammo. I'd only touch ammo I have the weapons for.

44 mag would be easier to find than the most abundant pistol round ever produced? Either way, this wont be my shtf gun. Just one that has more use.

sounds good to me

Get a good holster & belt to go along the G19 or 23

I would go G19 myself

I agree with the choice of caliber and weapon, but, I believe that 99% of the time the mountain lion will be crunching on your cervical vertebrate before you get it clear of the holster!
