I have one... given to me by my uncle.  It's not in good shape at all.  Bad finish.  Bad sights.  The slide spring seems weekends.  I've shot it a few times... stovepipes and Failure to Feeds.

Is this old dog worth restoring?  Just throw in the cabinet and forget it?

Replace the springs for $20 or so & use it for a truck gun or a beginners gun.

Where can a guy get parts for this old thing?  I like to get an ambi safety as well, but no idea where parts are even available.

Go to wolff springs.  Also try Bob's gun parts or Numrich.

thanks guys... you're getting me off to a good start.  I've discovered it's a 1952 Super... I think it's a B (9mm Largo).

It's an ok gun.  Could be better if it's possible to "restore" it.

I went out and shot a few rounds through it yesterday.  Had a couple of stovepipes and several FTEs.  I had also forgotting about the "hammer bites."  No matter how I hold the danged thing, it still seems to get me.  I suppose I could bob the hammer slightly.

I'm just wondering if it's even worth putting money into.

Read Here for some info.

They have a good reputation for a very workable "Begining" of a fine pistol. You are starting out with zero cost, so if you end up putting $200-$300 into getting it refinished, cleaned up and fine tuned. You end up with a nice pistol for very little money out.

I had a Star Super in 9mm Largo as well.  It bit the holy hell out of me, and I've never been bit by any other gun.  The backstrap is all one-piece with the frame, so no beavertail safety, etc.

Since it didn't cost you any money, I'd say try to replace the springs with new ones.  Make sure you replace the mainspring, that might help with the bite.

For the failures, try a box of new production Largo.  Some of the surplus stuff is getting pretty old, and alot of the problems might just be bad ammo.

Maybe you could figure out a way to make a round "commander" hammer.

I sold mine, because it was just awful painful to shoot, and I didn't want to spend any money on it.  If I had gotten it for free though, I'd probably have spent a couple bucks on it.
