If you were making a choice between the Springfield operator 1911 without a discount and the Sigarms GSR 1911 with a $100 coupon, which one would you get?

The GSR's are built on Caspian frames and slides.  Springfield's are based on Imbell from Brazil.  I'll take Caspian.

Is either frame and slide forged?  If so, buy the one with forged frame and slide.  I believe the Sig's frame is cast.

The Sig has an external extractor, which I hate, so I would go with the SA.

Not enough info to vote.  If you are talking about a cheapo Milspec 1911 form Springfield then go with the Sig all day long.

Many have said that lack of an external ejector was the only thing that makes the original Browning design flawed.

If you are talking about one of the Operator seires guns, then it makes the voting much closer.  The TRP Operator with the fully supported slide and light rail is a nice peice.  If you ever needed to strike someone with it in a punching manner the fully supported slide will work far better.

Both guns are nice and tight, with a slight edge given to the Sig.

Good luck!

Well, I need to recommend one of these to a friend of mine.
I'm a slave for SA 1911's though.

Why only those two choices? There are other 1911 options out there.

I'd buy the SA without a moments hesitation. I think the Sig is way over priced. Sig did not reinvent the 1911 wheel or improve upon the design at all.

In other news today, I agreed w/ Va_Dinger again.......

Sig: cast frame, external extractor (I was a huge fan of the move to external extractors until I realized that there was no chance of ever standardizing on one specific design within the industry), funky extra safety contraption in the slide.......

I recently bought a pair of SA 1911's, and they shoot like they've got eyes.......

(though I wish someone would make a 1911 with all-forged tool-steel parts at a good price.....)

Series 1 for sure.

None of that external extractor and such.  Kimber or SA.

As much as I like Sig pistols, I don't think they have their 1911 (GSR) refined yet.

I'd have to recommend the SA.

as much as i hate both  i would take the SA over the GSR  only  b/c i had  two GSR neither worked correctly. Give sig another year or so on the GSR. That's if they continue to produce that model.

I think we can hook you up.  Grab a Springy mil-spec and I can work it over and you'll have a kick ass 1911 for under, say $700.

Sig making 1911's is like Porscha making Corvettes.
