I am in the market for a new 9mm pistol.  I already have a glock 17 and a 19 as a off duty daily carry.  I am looking for a something with an all metal frame in a compact design.  I have handled a Sig 229 but not shot one.  This is the first pistol purchase that wont be a glock or a 1911.  Any recommendations and reasons for the recommendation would be appreciated.  This pistol will be just be an addition to the family.  If I like it enough it may see some time as my off duty carry to give the glock 19 a break.  I do not want a 9mm 1911.  I would like a double stack magazine with a DA/SA trigger.  Thanks for the help.

If the G17/G19 fit you well, you might consider a 9mm CZ variant. (Since you want steel and DA/SA.)

I'm a 9mm Glock fan through and through and the CZs feel great/shoot well in my hands. (But all hands are different, so YMMV.)

The two I had were Tanfoglio clones...

Great pistols, I almost regret selling them (but I never shot them much, and I sold them to a great guy who's a member here).

Bigger than what you want, probably, but there are smaller variants out there now.

All steel? No better all steel guns then 3rg gen Smith and Wessons like the 5906, 4006 and 4506. Very under rated pistols.

I'm kinda in the same boat as you OP.  I run a bunch of 1911's, hunt with a 629 in 44 mag
and also have a 229R Elite in 40.  While the 229 is a fantastic gun it has a pretty wide grip.
Accuracy is great for a short (er) barrel. I would recommend one with no reservations.

I'm now looking more into the subcompact area for carry. Being in NY with their restrictive
CCW laws I'm limited to 10 rd. mags - which is not a problem w/1911's or the Sig in 40.

I'm not really a glock fan, but I'm not a "hater" either. I just never liked the look of them.
I got the chance to shoot a 26 last week and this size type gun is exactly what I'm looking
for. I would like it to be a 40 S&W and have been looking so much lately that I'm getting
overwhelmed.  While not opposed to a sub-C 45 it wouldnt necessarily be my first choice.
I did handle a Kimber Ultra CDP and while a beautiful gun it's a little pricey for what I really
need this gun for (besides I already have 2 Kimber 45's...)

Anyone have a preference for cubcompact guns? Bad or Good experiences?

Can't disagree with this, either.  I own several and they are great pistols, plus my wife has carried the old 469/669s for years.

If you can, try before you buy.

Personally I'm a CZ fan, so I would say go try a CZ 75 Compact.

Anyone ever shoot a HK P2000?

I liked the way the Sig 229 felt in the hand.  I forgot about a compact cz. I shot a full size a few years ago and really liked it. I'll have to see if I can find an old smith and wesson and check that out also.
