Looking for a compact pistol in .45 ACP. How is the Glock 30? I'm not comfortable having to roll hammer cocked safety on with a 1911. I was looking at some Sigs, but I've heard their quality has slipped as of late. So, for a .45 is the Glock 30 a good choice? What else should I be looking at?
Thanks guys. I'm sure this has been beat to death but I looked over a few pages and searched, but found nothing. |

Yes. Outstanding choice. You cam use G21 mags too for 13 rounds, or the 9 or 10 round flus and finger rest mags. Unlike the other compact glocks, it does have an accessory rail for weapon lights. These features make it a "do all" pistol. Even better is that the price is right.
Be sure to check out the 30sf "short frame" version as well. Does not feel like a 2x4 in your hand |

just something to consider: with a round chambered, what has to happen for a decocked sig or glock to go off? answer pull trigger with a cocked and locked 1911: grip safety depressed thumb safety turned to off position trigger pulled Very valid post. That said, I EDC the 30SF. |
| The G30 is a fantastic pistol, but it is a little too fat for some to shoot comfortably. Another option that is quite a bit slimmer if you don't want to go the 1911 route ( I don't blame you) is a kahr p45. It has a much slimmer grip and is a little more concealable. Both very nice carry guns. my main house gun is a G21SF, it's comfortable for me, but it's on the outer limit of size for my hands. |
| my g29 prints quite a bit when conceal carrying; that's why i don't carry mine. the slide is very thick with relatively sharp corners. if i had open carry as an option, i'd go for the full size gun. 5" 1911 conceals great when i'm standing, but the bottom of the grip prints when i carry it with my home made holster under a size medium fishing shirt.. i'm 5'8" ~180 lb. |

M&P .45c would be my choice. If your not comfortable with one it the pipe and no safety then by all means pick up a model with a safety on it. Try handling it at your local shop or range. It might just fit your hand better than a G30. Just a question for you though OP. You would feel comfortable carrying a G30 in condition 1 without a safety but not a 1911 cocked and locked? I sold my Glocks for M&P's sans safeties. I feel just a tad bit more comfortable carrying my 1911's cocked and locked than my M&P's without safeties just for the fact that the 1911 has the grip safety and thumb safety as well as the drop safety. Is there something you don't trust about the 1911? I'm not flaming you in any way bro. Just curious as to what your take on it was.
ETA: I see where someone basically asked the same question above. |

I have G30SF I like it a lot I had a G30 and it was bulky and I have large hands. 1911 is a good choice also with the right training and practice you may learn to love the 1911.
Pistols I will recommend...... G30SF or S&W M&P 45c both great pistols and IMO equal I just prefer the feel of the Glock HK45C or USP 45C but they carry a nice price tag |

All my pistols have been DA/SA. I feel more comfortable with the longer trigger pull. But, I have never carried or tried to draw and fire a 1911. Well, I guess I have to put some more thought into this. |

| The 30 is a chunky little dude, but I like mine. The only complaint I have is that in following their “subcompact” design, the grip is short. It’s made up by the magazine having the large base plate which gives you a place for your finger but when reloading you have to fly that bottom finger out of the way. I’d have rather seen it built as a dedicated 10 round gun with the standard base plate on the magazine. Just my preference. Great gun though! |

Another G30SF owner here, it's also my EDC. I bought it used with OEM night sights a couple years back, made a couple small changes and it's a great pistol. I use a big honkin' mag release since I have fairly small hands, but otherwise the trigger reach and grip are very comfortable. I also like the M&P45c, and have had good luck with both commander and officers sized 1911s despite the latter having very mixed feelings in the gun world overall. Personally I think the G30 as a model is a very attractive package overall, and extremely easy to conceal. It's the perfect sized pistol for me when it comes to carrying and shooting a small-ish .45 |
