Well I will not allow myself to advice you what to buy but in my case I will go with M&P. I really dont like where the barrels is placed in sig pistols. too high for me. I always didnt like the finish on sig pistols, it goes away very fast. Sigs are fine pistols but they are pistols from past. MP offers more advantage: better ergonomics, high-end finish, low barrel, interchangible grip panels, simple maintenance. I also like the design and looks of the MP pistols. So I opt for M&P

people may disagree with me but this is my personal opinion.

Also if you and your wife plan to use same pistol, interchangible grip panels may be a good option if size of your hands is different.

I'd go the M&P mainly for the consistant trigger and the weight. My preferance is for 9mm or 40 over 45 in that gun.

But both are good choices, just depends what your into.

Sig 220 everytime.  I got one last year.  It is the best 45 auto I have ever owned.  Accurate, reliable and smooth.

This is exactly why I would go with the M&P too if I were in your position
