So whoelse thinks that there is going to be a
rash of these gun on the market in the next couple of years? I'm surprised that Ruger has not put one out or should I say made a copy of the PMR 30. |

Only if they actually work. A .22mag semi auto is not new. I remember one back in the '70's or '80's.............didn't work then either. |

I think there's merit in the concept. But a lot of people will get hung up about the cost of ammo for a "mere .22".
To make it really take off, I think ammo companies will need to develop .22 mag loads designed for shorter barrels. There's a new self defense load (can't recall the maker off the top of my head) spurred by the popularity of those mini revolvers. And some people actually pull the .22 magnum rounds and reload them with thier own powders to maximise performance but this is not something for the casual shooter. Personally, I'm not terribly confident in .22 LR or Magnum to kill small game cleanly out of a handgun. I'm gravitating toward the .327 magnum as a "kit gun" caliber. You can shoot .32 S&W Longs for small game (and the round is known for it's accuracy), .32 H&R magnums for more power (larger game), or .327 magnums where you really need to make an impression. It covers the spectrum from small to medium game and self defense very well. Obviously it's not a "bear gun" caliber, but a .327 can be had in a very light and compact package compared to a .44 magnum (or larger) revolver. |
Hate to be the stick in the mud but.......................
.22Mag SUCKS in a handgun. Velocity is low because of the short barrel. Hence downrange performance is poor. .22Mag ammo is designed for rifle velocity performance. Its expensive. Its LOUD. Even then its a very lightweight bullet compared to any of the pocket pistol calibers. Lousy choice IMO for a SD caliber. Maybe if ammo makers developed a good performing SD pistol round it might fly. |
