Are they the same gun?
Thanks 41 |

My 92FS also had torx bit head grip panel screws vs. my issued M9's flathead screws, not that it's a big difference, but it was something different.
Also the guide rod was plastic in the 92 vs. metal in the M9, as well as the trigger. sights someone already mentioned. For shooting purposes, they're identical. I always loved shooting the M9, and that continues with my 92. |

local shop has the M9 25th anniversary model for 579.99.
went to look at the FNP-45 and liked the feel of the Beretta more. They were asking 689.00 for the fnp. Is this a good price for the Beretta? I might get it and see if I can do better on the FNP 45 later on. Yes? |

92FS=made in italy M9=made in America 92FS pistols are also made in USA as well as Italy. I have never seen a 92FS made in America, Beretta's website says Made in Italy for the 92FS right in the heading for the gun. The 92A1 may be American made, it doesn't say one way or the other that I saw, but I didn't take the time to read the whole thing. http://www.berettausa.com/shop-by-department/pistol-shooter/guns/full-size-pistols/ If someone has an American made 92fs and will post pics, then I'm wrong. But like I said, I've never seen one. |

The 92FS is made in Italy and the US. A common debate among 92FS fans is "which is nicer" the Italian or American. My take is that I would prefer an Italian 92FS and obviously for the M9 my only choice would be an American one, which I would prefer even if they made one in Italy.

If you want to change the hammer spring to a "D" spring - the italian models have a roll pin which be removed with a punch. The USA models have a simple pin that you can push out easily... On my italian ones, I ordered the USA version pin and replace the roll pin.

Beretta made many a 92FS, including mine, in the USA. Once the US Army gave them an open ended contract for up to 500,000 M9's, the Maryland plant has been busy churning those out. So they simply bring in 92's made in Italy for now.
The M9, being a design specified by contract, doesn't change much from the days it was adopted back when it was the 92SB-F. Beretta does request changes to the milspec for spare parts reasons (like the poly trigger, new style recoil block, etc), which are reviewed by the Army and they decide if something is OK to change. So other than some minor updates, it's pretty much still an original 92FS. The civillian 92FS had no requirement, so it could develop as Beretta needed. So it changed more during the same time-frame. While it started exactly like an M9, over the years parts, and even the frame, have changed to improve the pistol, keep the costs down, or more often both. |

But like I said, I've never seen one. When I bought my first 92FS in 1997 it was made in the US. I bought another one in 2006. In the case, the gun shop had an M9, a US made 92FS, and an Italian made 92FS. To this day, many people seek out and are willing to pay more for the original "made in Italy" Beretta 92s because they claim they are of higher quality than when the 92 began being made in the US, and for several years you couldn't get a 92FS that was made in Italy. At least not brand new through the normal channels. In 2006, maybe 2005, was when the current crop of Made in Italy 92s began being sold again. I am sure they are actually identical to US made 92s and when the first few batches got here, they were actually $50 cheaper, at least to the dealer, than the US made ones. |
