My CZ-75 Phantom will sometimes drop its slide when I insert a loaded Mecgar mag. It doesn't do it with factory CZ mags, it doesn't do it with empty mags, and it seems to be doing it less than when I bought the gun. Is this supposed to happen? I have a cousin with a Sig P229 who says it's a feature on his gun.
Thanks |

I wouldn't rely on it for competition or self defense, but I've gotten pretty good at doing it with my CZ75.
I did it on accident a couple of times at the range. Then Magpul came out with their handgun dvd's, and they pointed it out with the M9. I started practicing it after that with mags loaded with snap caps at home. You've got to slam the mags home hard (at least in my gun), and instead of pushing straight up from the bottom, you push up and forward at about a 45* angle at the same time. I can do it about 80% of the time. |

It's not supposed to do that. The only guns I've seen that happen with are ones that either have excessively work slide stops or notches, or those whose users abusively force the magazine in. The gun in question only has about 800 - 1200 rounds through it, so I'm going to lean towards abusive magazine insertion as the cause. I'm going to try it with some snap caps and see if I can get a better idea on how to consistently make it happen or not. |
seems to happen with heavier guns more than polymers. Happens mostly when the slide release gets broken in and when you slam a full mag in real hard. Nothing bad about it, saves time in a reload
When reloading, i want the slide closed as soon as a fresh mag is inserted... wish they would hook the slide release to the mag so it did it everytime. |

Quoted: The first time I shot a 92F years ago it did that. I didn't like it. Some say it makes your reload quicker but I say its not good and losing the controls of the gun The only handgun I have that does that is the M&P. It threw me for a loop because all my other autos did not do this and after taking a few training courses I was used to either using the slidestop/release or going "over the top." Of course it only does this when you really slam the magazine home so it is never 100% guaranteed to work; that means I'm still racking the slide "just to be safe." |

My Beretta 96 Compact and Glock 21 will drop the slide if you seat the magazine forcefully enough. I only run factory magazines in both firearms, and it does it regardless of ammo in each gun. I'm guessing it has something to do with intertia causing the slide release lever to move and drop the slide forward.
