While trying to clean my brand new Buckmark SS Camper this afternoon, I found that the hex screw beneath the barrel (removal required for disassembly) is completely frozen/galled in place.  I broke three hex wrenchs trying to get it to budge to no avail and the last one snapped and the sharp edge scratched the shit out of the blackened aluminum forward of the trigger guard.

So right now I have a gun that I loved shooting at the range today (extremely accurate) but which now has me so frustrated I want to throw it into the nearest body of water.

Any suggestions on how to get this hex screw (7/64") out?

It's soaking in Kroil right now.

Also, any suggestions on how to cover the scratch on the aluminum?

Thanks

that stinks. i clean mine without taking the barrel off by using a bore snake. just makes it easier.

If Kroil doesn't do it nothing will.

Browning started loctiting the crap out of them, and said that it wasn't necessary to remove the barrel for routine cleaning and maintenance. I soaked mine in kroil, then got a stubby allen 3/8" drive socket and put it in the screw and tapped it smartly with a hammer to unlock the loctite.

I tightened mine too much once too...   I had to cut a groove in it with a dremel and back it out with a screw driver.   I can't blame Browning for it because I had put it in there.

I just put a Red Dot on it to cover up my mistake

ETA I thought you meant the screw into the barrel on the top.

I'd try the Kroil soak or WD40.

Try dabbing acetone or nail polish remover on the screw head--let it soak to dissolve/loosen the LocTite. Or try heating the screw head for 5-10 minutes with a small soldering iron. That sometimes loseens up thread sealant.

I wouldn't even bother with removing the barrel.  I clean mine with the barrel in place.
