I have been looking for a used Browning HP and came up with a nice one on Gun Broker for $549. Now the problem here is this has two ten round mags and $35 to ship to your FFL. Add another $20-$35 for transfer and we are up to the price of a new one. I think Bud's gun shop had a new one for $635. $20 difference for a new one with a card and two 13 round mags. Am I missing something here? What do you folks think?

Depends.

Date of manufacture?  Country of manufacture?  Pre-1988 or post 1988?  T-series?  Not enough information here.

If all things are relatively equal, however, it is a no-brainer - get the new one.

Or shop around a bit more for a used one.

Damn. I bought a 1990 vintage MK III the other day in the box in excellent condition for $425 tax and all with 3 mags. Guess it was a better buy than I had at first thought.

Congrats.

at least youre doing your homework. Some people wouldnt think of that.

check out some Guns shows in your area if you have them.

i would also, look for "buy now" instead of the "auction" types since they have a tendency to sucker people and pay more then what they can get them for locally.

also, check out GunsAmerica.  Its a buy/sell place not acution.  just be aware that some of the sellers are not FFL holders or gun shop owners.

If you look for a "used" guns in person, there maybe more wiggle room for negotiations since its "used".  If you want NIB, then your hosed.  there are seveal gun shops in my area that are willing to negotiate on the price of "used" guns especially if youre a regular customer.  NOte that i have "regular customer" there.

edit:

also, you should know that unless youre an FFL holder, your FFL holder will probably charge you a fee too.  so add that to your $$.  Also, check out the shipping charges for each add.  everyone charges differently. some charge upto 60 to ship and some charge around the 20 mark.
