Curious.... can a stock Hi Power handle the +P ammo?  Pistol is totally stock... no changes or additions since I bought it 20 years ago.

Nato spec is roughly +P and HiPowers have shot several kazillion rounds of that stuff.

Yes, +P will increase wear and tear on the gun (and you).  This is true for any firearm.  But I wouldn't hesitate to run +p if that's what you have on hand.

You didn't say how old your HP is but if it is is a MKIII shouldn't be a problem.

I wouldn't make a steady diet of them, but I do keep my defensive magazines filled with +p's.
