| I have an Beligum Hi Power (about 30 years old but only shot about 200 rds) that is not feeding 100%. Is there current thought on the best jacketed hollow points to use for better realibility?hinking.gif |
If your HP is that old, it's probably got the hump shaped feed ramp. It was not designed to feed hollowpoints only ball ammo. Lot's of shooters have had the same problem, some have changed barrels, others have polished the ramp to aid in feeding the JHP, and others have polished the ramp till it was straight (should be left to a professional) to get the rounds to feed properly. You can try different brands of JHP to find one that will work better then the others, but it still may be a problem. It's the bullet shape that is hanging up, if you can find a JHP shaped like a FMJ then that might cure your situation. RC |
+1...almost a certainty that this is the issue. Until it is resolved correctly, however, Watch-Six has the correct info...try Remington 115gr. JHP's. |

It really isn't that difficult to remove the humps in the feed ramp. It does help to have a modern barrel to use as a guide for comparison. Once you determine your angle - to match the modern barrel 's feed ramp - you clamp your barrel in a padded vise and file straight across the ramp at the proper angle. Hit both edges of the ramp as you stroke the file. The edges of the ramp become wider as you file the hump down. Take out your Dremel and widen and deepen the ramp. I did mine in multiple stages. |
