I went shooting with some HTFers the other day.  One guy had his High Power.  As I watched him shoot next to others with .45s, I was astounded at how little muzzle flip the gun had.   Of course, we all know how the gun feels when we shoot it, and that it has low recoil.  However, I never watched someone else shoot one.  The gun looked like it was recoiling almost perfectly flat.  I just wished I would have taken mine with me.

They really are something, aren't they? Everyone I've ever let shoot one of my BHPs has gotten really intrigued with the breed.

I can never figure out why they are not more popular.  I've had the same experience.  People pick them up, get all excited about how they feel, shoot them, fall in love, and don't buy one.

I use mine for 3 gun matches & IDPA. I'm always the only one there with a HP & most guys there like to look at it & hold it at least once.

Damn fine gun.

Don't look at me when you say that Hobbs. Just bought one to replace one I sold in '75- regret it to this day. Only downer is I have to go to a wedding Sat and Sun is Mom's Day. What a bitch. It'll probably rain weekend after that. It's killing me! Guess I'll use the time to start making a list of stuff to reload it.

I should be a weatherman. Forecast for Saturday 50% chance of thunderstorms. May put it in a garbage bag, put on my Speedo and go anyway.

Well, I guess I'll just have to shoot my BHP on Saturday too!

I've decided that a BHP will be my next pistol purchase.  I can't decide between 9mm and .40 though.  I  would really like to get the 9mm but I want to use it to shoot IPSC Limited 10.  If I use a 9mm it will only be scored as Minor but a .40 will allow me to shoot Major.

What do you guys think?

Get the .40 S&W and install a Springco Recoil system like I did.
I couldn't believe the difference in recoil.

Edwin, I've looked at these. Do you have a Hi Power in 9mm and do you think a Sprinco would be as worthwhile in 9mm? I got mine to shoot non +p, but this might let me experiment with some hotter loads from my manuals without battering the frame. She's just too pretty to abuse!
I have a bit put aside to pimp her up a little, but I was considering some Crain Spegel grips.

If they made it in .45 I'd already own one....am contemplating the .40  though

I don't want to digress into what is the best game in town, but you might consider IDPA instead of USPSA Limited 10.  You will not be penalized for caliber choice on this one.  It does not matter if it's just a game gun.

However, you said you really wanted to get the 9mm.  Did you say this because of recoil issues, or capacity, or what?  If these things matter to you, get the 9mm.  After all, we're talking games here, and who cares if you're penalized, as long as you get to practice with what you want to carry.

The .40 would be strictly a gaming gun.  I would shoot IDPA but we don't have it around here yet.  I will probably eventually get the 9mm and use it for plinking but first will be the .40 so I can make major.

Off the subject a little, but how would you like to be in Iraq packing a sidearm folks are "plinking" with back home? Bring back the 1911!

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say but there are plenty of us plinking with AR's and over in Iraq soldiers and marines are depending on them to save their lives.

Stephen has had good results with it in 9mm, but the difference isn't near as dramatic as with the .40 from what I can tell.  For +p ammo, I would say it would definitely be worth it though.
I no longer have a 9mm Hi Power.

Aw, it was just a reference to the fact that the army dropped the .45 cal SAA for the .38 Colt Model 1899, then adopted the .45 ACP cause they couldn't stop pissed off Moros with their .38 cal sidearms. So that's the ticket for 60 years or so and they go back to essentially a hot .38 cal. round with the Beretta.....
As for the AR, who doesn't enjoy an afternoon out with a bucket of 5.56? Of course it's no secret that there are those in the armed forces who are not satisfied with this 40 year old weapon. 6.8x43 is one thing they are looking at. What do you think this will do to the AR situation for we civies? Will it get rid of the irritating backorders at Bushmaster or just fade away? I order spare parts on a monthly basis for my Bushmaster to make sure mine functions well on down the road. And I understand Barrett makes an 6.8x43 upper you can strap onto your AR15 lower. Now, speaking of "plinking," THERE'S something I would like to plink with- one of his big 50s! Just need a clear 2000 yards somewhere.
No offense intended- just a flip entry last thing on a Friday after a long week. Sometimes it's hard to anticipate how every nuance will be received.

First- Hobbs, I hope you got to go- the rain held off and I had a blast with my new Hi Power. Just as much fun as I remembered. Shot 130 rounds of 115 gr Winchester whites and got some decent groups. That trigger is certainly different from my Glock.

Edwin-I think I'll put some $ aside for the Sprinco. I'm going to shoot a thousand or so 115 grains first and make sure everything is cool and then send it off for a little fine tuning and some sights. Maybe by Christmas I can snag some of the Cocobolo or Kingwood grips. I saw some here on a Hi Power that were amazing.

Good shoting, guys.

Some of the best prices I've found on Mec-gar Hp mags have been from www.arizonagunrunners.net/index.html Check them out.

One of the guys I shoot with regularly has a HiPower in .40 and there's little difference in recoil between it and 9MM, IMO.

Oddly enough, we've BOTH come to the realization that the 9MM is louder than the .40.
