My Hi Power has the tiny older-style safety and am looking at a larger option. The only aftermarket one I can find is the Cylinder and Slide and it gets poor reviews on Brownell's.

Other options?

The C&S part is a high quality item.

What I suspect is driving the poor feedback is that it's not a "drop in part".
Which is just the reality in dealing with many parts on the Hi-Power, 1911 and many other designs that don't come out of an injection molding machine or were created before 1990.

There's an EOM extended safety that's used on the current production guns but I wouldn't bet my life on them being just fine as a drop in either.
Safeties, sears, hammers and the like are items that need to be fitted by somebody that knows what they're doing.

I had a factory ambidextrous safety installed on my 73C series BHP. It came off either a MK-II or MK-III. I also installed a set of factory grips as they were already cut for the safety. I like the factory safety as it is very flat. The smith that did the work was Don Williams from "The Action Works" in Arizona:

I installed the C&S on my MK-II, I kept bumping the factory ambi. safety on the right side with my grip.
The C&S is a high quality part, as I recall mine was basically a drop in part, I'm used to fitting 1911 safeties and I didn't have to go that route.

I agree some fitting is normal on a 1911 or Hi Power, safety, and you'll still want to check it carefully for proper function. It's just the nature of the beast.

With that understood, the C&S safety is a nice addition to a hi Power.

I also had an FN SFS Hi Power and really liked it, in part because it comes stock with an ambidextrous safety that has a very positive feel to it - not the normal Hi Power mushy feel.

I also like the SFS system for general concealed carry use.  Cylinder and slide sells the FN made parts for this conversion and I've put the kit in an FEG - although some minor fitting was required.

That's what I think I'm going to do, along with an extended slide release.

Later it might get some upgraded sights, maybe XS.

Right now it has those Millett dual crimp deals with the two holes in the front of the slide. Not a bad sight picture but they're a pain to change.

I intend to use in three gun, and might see about carrying it.

Good move!  About the best option that doesn't get the love it should as FN/Browning really did come up with about the best solution to their old tiny nub.

I put the C&S on mine. A little fitting and it's great.

I much prefer the Browning Double Banana over any of the aftermarket units.

Personally I like the "banana style" Browning or the Cylinder & Slide unit equally well.  There are others out there, but I have no personal knowledge of how they feel, which is subjective at best.  Mostly they have to be fitted but there will be a rare occasion that they drop in by accident.  Anybody bagging on any BHP safety for being non-drop in shouldn't be trusted for accurate information, is my view.

For sights I'm a big fan of the Novaks, either the Mk II or the "old-style" Mk III depending on what gun you have.  Some minor machining to the slide will be necessary.  If there isn't anyone locally capable of doing the work, I'd send the slide to either C&S or Novak direct and have them do it.  Generally the entire pistol is not required.

You might also discuss any work you need done professionally with Don Williams of The Action Works, who was mentioned earlier in this thread.  He's known to do good work and knows his way around the Hi Power.

Got it all installed, along with the extended slide stop.

I did have to stone the little nub that keeps the sear from moving, but I got it perfect no movement at all and full engagement of the safety level.

I might look into the C&S drop in hammer and sear set, as my hammer hook is deeper than the sear nose is tall, and as a result there is some creep before it breaks.

ETA: and my mags drop free perfectly now since I changed the sear spring too!

That turned out nice!

I was lucky that the safety and the ring hammer just dropped into my BHP without fitting. As I said, my safety was installed by Don Williams of the Action Works. While he was working on the safety, he also checked the engagement of the hammer for me. The hammer is off of an Argentine BHP and I picked it up from another member here on the board.

Well mine came with the ambi safety, however I did have the C&S Type II hammer, wide trigger, tool steel sear and target spring set installed along with the Novaks. Trigger pull is right at 5 pounds crisp with a touch of creep, kinda like a Giessele two stage trigger with a really super short first stage.

You know, after shootong it quite a bit,, I'm not gonna change a thing. The trigger is really very nice and the reset is short, much shorter than my '76 Browning.

Question about sights: right now it has a .185" front sight and an MMC rear sight. It hits about 4" high at 15 yards. I like a dead-on rather than 6 o'clock hold.

I am looking at Novak's sights myself but I'm curious about the height of the front vs the rear because if I replace the existing sights with Novak's I'd like to correct the high POI.
