Detail stripped my new to me, FEG Hipower. It is early and 100% interchangeable variety. Got a Wolff factory spec spring kit from Midway USA. Replaced the recoil spring and firing pin spring. Both were substantially longer than the ones I removed, but I assume that is the result of untold cycles of the springs through the last 20 or 30 years.
The extractor spring (or at least I am assuming that is what it was) was 2X+ longer than the FEG's extractor spring. I did not cut it down, but used the original, since it extracts fine. EVen with the original spring, it takes more than a little effort to move the extractor. Is there some secret difference between FEG extractor springs and Browning? The blow up looks more like the FEG. Third, the captive hammer spring defies replacement. Is there a secret to it? I am assuming there must be a jig to facilitate the impossible. I have not had any light strikes with the existing spring, so I probably leave it in. WInchester, CCI, and Federal a good dent in them from the hammer strike. Trigger pull is awesome, since I removed the Magazine safety. Tactically, mag safeties SUCK! Thanks in advance. |
| I got factory spec, rather than extra power. I was supposed to go to the range this morning and wring it out, but got rained out (again). Midway does not have Browning factory springs, but I think Brownell's does. I will keep that in mind. I have a Wolff +1 pound in my 469, and it works great. |

I prefer factory Browning springs, that said pretty much all of the Wolff spring products for the HP seem to run long in length by their own design. Which, speaking of, I just ordered some factory browning springs from brownells and they're too long too. I can't get the spring/spring guide to stay pointed the right direction in the pistol in order to re-assemble it... |

My wolff 18.5 looks crooked when it goes in too but once everything is together it works fine. |
