I bought this Hi Power brand new some 20+ years ago. It has always been a great and reliable pistol that would eat anything fed to it. It is well over 10,000 rounds at a conservative estimate. I tend to think I am in the neighborhood of 15k with Betty at this point.

A year or so ago it started getting finicky about the ammo used. At first, it was UMC it didn't like, then it was AE, then WWB all of which it has never had trouble with in the past. I did notice that the cheap plinker stuff seems to be loaded lighter than it used to be, but maybe I'm wrong. A few years back, I acquired a nearly brand new BHP when a local guy sold off his collection. I don't think this one had more than a couple hundred rounds though it. It has less (maybe it's none? I paid attention the last time I took them out but I didn't write down my results and fogot ) problems and will run and run and run.

It's always a half extracted case laying in the ejection port. I am thinking a worn out extractor, but before I go off that far is there anything else it might be? I've never had it taken down far enough to get past a field strip and cleaning and am a little hesitant to go that far if I don't have to. Maybe a deeper cleaning?

The MkIII has been my CCW for, well nearly since I bought it. I have a couple others I will carry on occasion, but this one is Betty! Damn it man, I can't forsake Betty!

Any input would be appreciated as this may be a wedding present along with the other to my daughter and her fiance in about a month. I want Betty up to speed and running like she always did before.

Worn extractor or weak extractor spring. Both can be ordered direct from Browning for a lot cheaper than you may think. Prob under $12-15 for both.

How bad is it to get out and replace? It looks from a cursory inspection that a drift punch will release everything I'm after.
