I am looking for a small semi auto and the idea of   purchasing  a Kel Tec seems very good.  It is both small , lightweight and flat plus the added advantage of being in 9 mm cal. My only question is this.

Would you be willing to trust the pistol with your life or the lives of fmaily members ?

I am not talking about using it as a home defense weapon or anything like that, just a fireram that can be carried and you hope you would never have to use.

Absolutely, I do it on a regular basis. My P-11 is carried concealed far more often than any other defensive handgun I own. It's been completely reliable for something approaching 1k rounds, is as accurate as any J-frame snubbie I've shot and provides 13 rounds of fairly hard hitting ammunition. It carries as easily as a S&W five-shot .38. Why wouldn't I feel well protected?

How do the two differ? I hope to never use any firearm in the defense of my life or someone else, but especially on the street. At home I have a lot more control of the situation...likely fields of fire, backstops, the ability to hunker down in the safe room and wait for the police to arrive while watching just one avenue of attack, etc. Outside your home you rarely if ever have any of these advantages.

My p11 has been very reliable, and I carry it more than more expensive pistols I own.
I have shot quite a bit of Corbon +P through it, as well as range ammo, and it works great, no problems or breakages.

I hate the trigger ergos, but other than that it's an awesome little pistol, for which I paid under $300.

In reply, for a home protection weapon, i would use my Rem 870 tac. with target loads in it.  As a backup, i would use my Ber. 92 FS with Trijicon night sights and subsonic rounds.

I carry a PF9 everyday in my pocket.  I've shot a couple hundred rounds through it with no problems.

My apologies for misreading the meaning of your first message. Either the Kel Tec P-11 or PF-9 would make an excellent CCW companion to your service pistol and pump gun.
