I have a parkerized model.  Its never really shot that well, frequently the slide needs help to go forward fully, keyholes bullets badly even at close range, inaccurate, etc...

I have noticed the more I shoot it, the better it gets.  It doesn't HURT to shoot anymore.  Its more accurate every time I take it to the range.  The slide only needs help occasionally, if ever.  I can rapid fire a magazine with no trouble and put somewhat of a group together.

The biggest thing I noticed was yesterday during cleaning, a LOT of black crud came out of the barrel.  I only put 20 rounds or so through it that day, and clean it thoroughly after each trip.  Its like the parkerizing is coming out of the rifling, and the pistol is functioning better as a result...  Am I nuts or does this sound plausible?

I haven't heard this before.  One of the issues with getting a parked model (or hard chrome, for that matter) is that should something have some sort of rough edge ("slide needing help") you can't polish it without removing the finish.

It is possible the ramp or a slide burr smoothed out after contact with the bullet jackets or just wear.  Did you change ammo brands?  If anything, I would think as your recoil springs wore, the slide would need more, uh, intervention.

As much as I love my Kel-Tecs, I suggest you only carry a weapon you can trust in a crisis, and single shot doesn't cut it.  Try and figure out what the hang-up is.  Tips are free here, and you can always send it back to the factory for tuning if needed.
