| i just had to send in my p-11 with a broken ejector i was wondering what the average turn around time was from kel-tech |
| Probably about a month. If you ever have a minor issue like that again call Kel-Tec and ask if they will send you a part. They almost always will send it to you for free and you can fix it yourself. The ejector takes about 5-10 minutes, and is no more difficult than changing a door knob. |
Nope, just call them, ask to speak with the gunsmith and tell him/her what you need. They'll have it in the mail ASAP, usually with no questions asked. |

One of the joys of Kel-Tec ownership is that the factory is very tolerant, even supportive, of owners who want to fix minor problems themselves. It saves both parties the hassle and expensive of shipping. I have seen a couple of people who managed to void their warranties, but only when they ground the feed ramps on their barrels down to the point that KT just could not fix them. Even after that, they offered to reinstate the warranty for the whole gun if the owner was willing to pay to replace the part (barrel) they got carried away with a Dremel on. Many have butchered barrels and still had them replaced for free, BTW. Some have even sent their KTs back to the factory in parts because they couldn't figure out how to reassemble it. KT put it back together, tested it, and replaced anything that wasn't right - at no charge. No, it wasn't me. ETA: Hoppy makes an excellent point about asking to speak to a gunsmith. If you call sales and ask for a new ejector, they will sell you one and charge you shipping. If you speak with the gunsmith and explain that your's broke, they will toss one in an envelope and off it goes for free. |

Nice of them to change it for you. It would really piss me off if they did that with mine though, since my holster is custom-designed for the First Gen, and won't accomodate a Second Gen. I don't think they are taking that into consideration when they perform the swap. BTW, the frame and internals are the same on both models, just the slide/barrel/extractor assembly and the plastic grip are different. The late FG ejector is the same as the SG ejector; early FG ejectors won't work on the SG slide. |
Not to jack the thread, but I didn't even get a chance to buy a holster as the gun would not go through a mag of 2 different kinds of ammo the first trip to the range. most of the time this was due to FTE. I feel the 2nd Gen extractor made a big difference. I have seen people post about having no probs w/ 1st gen 380's but I had no such luck. |
I think the problems had less to do with the extractor and more to do with the barrels. The "barrel hood" area was too tight on mine, and resulted in some FTE problems as well, even after I updated to the extended 1G extractor. Rounding the edge off the the top of the hood made my P-3AT 100% in just a few minutes. I read about the procedure on one of the Kel-Tec forums - a guy usernamed Flyer invented it, not me. A lot of people seem to have had similar experiences, from what I have read. Sorry for the hijack... |

Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time using a LGS to ship your pistol for you. You can ship a pistol to the manufacturer via FedEx or UPS as "machine parts" and not spend a ton of money on overnight shipping - legally. LINK Lots of people on the Kel-Tec sites have used this method, and I have yet to hear of anyone ever having a problem with it. |
