The wife got a P3AT for Christmas, and I'm about to take on the F&B job before our first range session on Saturday.

I plan on feeding it Federal PD Hydrashocks, so the rampectomy shouldn't be in order (shorter OAL, so no smilies).

I know about the ejector falling out, and the tendedncy for FTE with limp wristing (shouldn't be an issue, as this is a backup for my wife's "regular" gun - a ParaCarry).

Now, here are my questions:

1). Does the slide lock back on the last round?  I haven't been able to get it to lock back by manually cycling the slide (on two different mags).

2). What else should I be looking for/wary of as far as malfunctions.

Thanks in advance for the advise, and for NOT taking my head off for not being a master of the "search" function.

my P32 has been fine - once I worked out some bugs.... it has last-round hold open, but I think it was dropped on the P3AT due to size constraints.  I HIGHLY recomment you check out the Kel-Tec Owners Group.  Good Luck!

No, not on the .380 model

As far as feeding it... the Federal Hydras are great carry ammo, and you definately want to send some down range with the carry ammo, but I would feed in FMJ for the 1st 100rds or more to aid in break-in.

They also like to be cleaned at about the 100rd mark.  So if you are planning an extensive range day, a quick field cleaning every 100rds will help.

Also, some wear on the rails/frame will occur during the first 100rds.  You will want to polish off any burs that occur to keep it sliding smooth.

FWIW, I used 90gr PMC for my break-in and normal range time, and I haven't done the 'rampectomy' either.

You also may want to check to make sure you have the newer extractor.

Hope she has fun shooting it!

BTW, If you wife doesn't normally wear a hat to the range, she may want to with this little gun... with the kick and just a little limp wrist, it will sometimes eject a shell right to the forehead... ask my wife how we know this!

no kidding, especially shooting off hand.  Little bastard kicks those .380 shells hard too.  Good gun, but it is for up close, dirty work.

Hmm. Limp-wristing sensative, and shell ejection into the forehead, wrapped in a polymer frame.  Maybe I should have gotten her a Glock.

Thanks guys (and keep the suggestions coming), I've visited ktog, but just realized we have a KelTec specific forum over here.

Also, (providing this thing likes the PD stuff), I have a policy of both "breaking in" (first 250 or so rounds downrange) and carrying with the same ammo.  That way I'm positive that the ammo will work with the gun 100%.  It tends to be expensive, but I don't think I'll want to put 250 rounds through this one to call it "reliable" (thus the F&B BEFORE we hit the range).

I tried to get mine a Glock... to big she says... even my little g26.

Oh well... she said she'd put the range time in to master the little .380, and so far, she sticking to her word...  and I would never argue about more range time!

I just picked up some Bersa mag extensions this week... hoping that will help her a bit with muzzle flip.
