Hi guys,

I am looking for a good carry weapon and want to get as many opinions ideas as I can.

I have been leaning toward an XD45 compact for a while now but don't wanna jump on anything.

I want to know more about the compact models that CZ offers. Specifically I want to know how they would compare to the XD.

I was looking mainly at the 75compact, a PCR, or a P-01.

What problems could I find with these?

What about CCW with these models, how are they compared to XD?

Anything needed to be upgraded from the start?

Any opinions appreciated.

No upgrades beyond night sights are needed.

The 75 Compact is all steel while the other two use alloy frames, so the 75C will be a little more hefty.

Honestly, the 75C is my ideal carry pistol- manual safety, THIN for a double stack 9mm, points very naturally, and CZ build quality/reliability.

The decocker CZ's seem to get a lot of criticism for bad DA pulls out of the box.  Your CZ will smooth out after 500 rounds or so.  My 75SA shoots much better than it did right out of the box.

I much prefer CZs to XDs.  I can't stand the higher bore axis of the XD pistols.

I use a CZ RAMI for carry.  It is the sub compact model that compares best to the smaller XD's.  I also have a P-01.  I prefer them both to the XD's.  You should just try to shoot them side by side before you decide.  The last person I took to do this chose the CZ.

Have you handled any of the guns you are looking at?  You dont say what caliber you want either.

i would do some fondling first and then go from there.  theres alot of various guns mfg that can fit the bill, but unless you handled them, its all alot of hand waving.

with regards to "upgrading" it all depends on how you like to mod them.  some people cant leave well enough alone and end up screwing up their gun. so with that said, before you do ANY mods, take that gun out and shoot it with various ammo and get a base line on performance.  then once you do you mods, you will know that it worked bofore you did the changes.

imo, most guns dont need mods, but again, it will depend on what you want to do with it.

also, any gun can have issues out of the box even if it hasnt been reported before.  dont forget that ammo can be the culprit too.

Good advice already posted. I highly recommend getting out and trying both and others. If you can't get access to them, ask on the board and maybe someone in your area with them can meet you for a trial run.

I have a CZ 75 Compact and have carried it some. I have a friend who carries his on a regular basis. CZ 75s are pretty much my ideal gun, but that's just my personal preference (not that I can't back it up with reasons too).

Also, as already said, I wouldn't worry much about mods right from the start. Anyway, other than maybe a trigger job and night sights, I can't imagine what else you would want to do with it.

Personally I prefer having a manual safety over a decocker. I can manually decock if I want the hammer down. But if I have a decocker, I'm stuck with carrying hammer down, it's no longer an option.

Here's a pic of my 75 Compact in a Comptac C-TAC:

I have both the CZ PCR and the P-01. Both are good for CCW but the PCR is better since it doesn't have the rail and that's the one I carry most of the time.
