I handled a used 75 Compact with the safety lever and noticed I could only engage the safety with it cocked. I was kind of surprised it wouldn`t engage with the hammer down. Is this normal operation for a CZ? It was a DA/SA model as well.

Same for the P07/P09/P01.

Heck, same for a lot of guns.  Like the AR, and the Ruger 22/45 Mk III.  Why have a safety on an uncocked firearm?

I am a 1911 guy and am perfectly happy carrying cocked and locked. The only other DA/SA gun I have experience with is the Beretta 92FS which does allow you to engage the safety with the hammer down which is why I asked. I really like what CZ has to offer and wanted to be sure which model is best for me. Thanks for the input!

I prefer a decocker instead of a safety.  I also like Sig P22x pistols.

To each their own. I prefer a safety.

Didn't care for the ergonomics of it, but I liked the setup on my old HK USP. Safety that could be engaged whether the hammer was back or not, and a combo decocker if you wanted to use it. Sold it almost ten years ago though because I preferred my CZs.
