I just placed an order for a CZC Shadow Target Custom.  Got a caliber conversion kit for the 650 and ordered a couple thousand xtreme 147's.

I can't wait until that thing shows up.

Man I hope so.  I'm sort of kicking myself for spending so much on a Production gun.

That's what I'm really worried about.  Gotta have a backup, right?

Another $1600 in...

Once I get familiar with how it works and tuning it, I may just get a regular shadow and mod it myself.

Might want to get your Additional Shadow order in now.  At least while they have them.  Over the last 2 years SP01 Shadow's  became very scarce.  I remember Maynard post a thread looking for a SPO1 Shadow and non were available. I think even with the power of ARFCOM  only two shops had a possible gun for sale.  Remember CZ makes their Guns in production runs.  Want a specific gun outside the run it may be scarce till the next run.

If you really wanted another Shadow,  Cry now and then cry some more over wallet sting. Then build it up after you have it in your hands.  It could be a while before the next run comes around.

Yeah, you're right.  I REALLY can't afford another one right now though.

Dont feel pressured into getting a second gun anytime soon.  Shadows, while rare, are hardly rare when comparing them to say an Tanfoglio Stock II.

Shoot the gun, keep a few trigger return springs on hand and enjoy it.  IF you really like the gun then go ahead and get a backup.

I shot a shadow for about a year before deciding i hated it but my training gun was a worked over Sp01 that i picked up used for 300 bucks.  The Shadow was the match gun and the Sp01 was the gun that took the brunt of the workload.  Just some food for though.  The trigger's were almost exactly the same.

What gun were you shooting before the CZ's?

I've been shooting an xdm with a 2.75lb trigger in it for a few years.  I've grown pretty used to it.  It shoots pretty fast and accurate for a plastic gun.  I'm really worried that I'm not going to like the DA trigger no matter how smooth it is.

The reason I would want a backup gun is that my current Production xdm is .40.  I can't really take extra ammo with me to matches that I fly to.  It'd still sort of be a hassle bringing it to major matches that I would drive to.

I went from Glocks to the Shadow.  I had to switch from glock due to tendinitis in my right wrists and thumb due to the advanced angle on the Glock.  The more upright angle of the Shadows grip and its 42.5 ounce weight allowed me to continue shooting while working through the worst of my injury.

I LOVE DA guns, in fact, every gun i buy now is a DA/SA and i just dont see the merit in the striker fired action provided you're not having to deal with a 13 pound double action trigger press.

Put the thought of not liking the DA shot out of your mind, seriously.  You will get used to it and you WILL like it.

Why did you decide you hated the Sp-01's?

Why did you decide you hated the Sp-01's?

Hate is a strong word which sometimes leaks out of my vocabulary.  I disliked the gun, a lot.

I think there's a lot of hype surrounding these guns in the competition world due to two factors.

1.  A 42.5 ounce gun does indeed recoil very little.

2.  Most people that are new to CZ's or DA/SA guns in general are coming from guns with 4-6 pound triggers.  The second you try a 2.5 lb single action trigger, you get hooked.  Trigger weight is a good mask for gaps in fundamental skill sets but CAN give a placebo effect of increased performance in the short term.

In my case, the gun simply didnt fit my hands, at all.  I was coming from a Glock which has a very, hand filling grip design and the Sp01 was too thin in the beavertail area.  There were no grips on the market that made that area thicker and the gun, no matter how hard i clamped down on it, would not recoil the way i wanted it to, ie consistently.  The sharpness of the beavertail was also an issue as it would beat the shit out of my thumb knuckle during high round count training sessions.  I used to tout the party line and relish in the train tracks that my Glocks left on me but as i got older and less dumb, i realized that if a gun is drawing blood, or causing pain, its got to go.  There are other options on the market and i am not married to anything.  I want to be shooting when im 50, not crippled from arthritis because i thought i was a bearded Hoperator and my Glock instantly slayed Haji's with a mere thought...  This is no fault of the gun or its design as plenty of people do not have this issue or are unaware of it.

I made a brief video highlighting some of these issues and also talking about my solution:

Thanks for taking the time to post your perspective on the matter.

My pleasure.

Keep us apprised of your progress and what you think of the gun!  My findings are my own and are most certainly not the universal constant.
