A buddy of mine found a deal on a NIB Blue CZ83 today, thought what the heck, snatched it up. I can't quit buying CZ pistols, look forward to shooting it this weekend. |

I fully understand your obsession with the CZ line of pistols; they are the dark horse of pistol value in the USA.
Just in case you have never fired an 82/83, it may take a bit of getting used to; being smaller and lighter than the full size 9mm pistols, the blowback action may surprise you with its recoil relative to the smaller size of the ammo (.380acp?). However, it is a snappy little gun which is fun to shoot and something of a challenge to master. Good luck to your friend and yourself! |

I have a CZ83. I also have a CZ75B and CZ75 Compact. The CZ83 is big for a .380. Its grip is as big as the grip on my CZ75 Compact. I have to carry the CZ83 the same way I carry the CZ75 Compact. There's no putting it in your pocket, unless you enjoy looking like you have a canned ham in your pocket. And as the other poster said, it does have very snappy recoil despite its size and weight. But it is exceptionally well made. And its a joy to shoot.
Here's mine... http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l590/RowlandParks/My%20Guns/022.jpg Here's a tip: If you ever decide to put CZ wood grips on the gun, CZ will tell you that you need grip screw inserts to mount them. Actually, however, you do not. The grips go on they same way the original plastic ones do. In fact, the grip screw inserts that CZ says you need to use the wood grips cannot be used at all. The grips can't fit if the inserts are used. |

I own the CZ-82 which is the surplus 9mmMak version and find that they're a great deal.
My dad recently gave me a CZ82. This would be the third one I've owned yet I haven't shot one in about 2 years. Well I went to the range, put the target out to about 15 yards, gripped it like I do my 1911s with my thumbs forward and grip thumb on top of the safety and fired off the mag. What I noticed was that there was so little recoil,it felt like I was shooting a .22lr. I was kinda shocked that my group was no more than 2" since it's been awhile since I shot one, but there it was. These little blowbacks are great all around shooters for sure. |
| I too just bought my first CZ83 and was surprised how nicely it shot. I own several 9mm makarovs and once had an .380 Interarms PPK so I know how blowback operated pistols have a fairly stout recoil for the power level of the cartridge. The 83 being all steel and a tad larger had a smoother recoil and shot much nicer than a friends Beretta 84, which the two are roughly the same size. The Beretta has a alloy frame so is a tad lighter. The CZ is very easy to shoot well. |
