hi, put this post in another part of this site( 1911 discussion)
anyone ever use or own one? been looking for a high-end 1911 ( have it narrowed down to a premier ii, sti sentinel, kimber super match ii and the valor.)
only thing i don`t like about the valor is that it does not have an adj. target rear sight. but i can change the rear sight.
any help here?     thanks!

If you're looking for a target 1911 the valor is probably a little overkill for you. I own the Valor and had a Premier II. The Premier II is awesome. I sold it because it had the adjustable sight, but if that's what you're looking for, then by all means...  It handles great, was 100 percent reliable for me, very accurate and was just a joy to shoot. Once I was carrying it and ended up falling down. I landed RIGHT on the ambisafety. NO damage to the pistol, not even a scratch and it functioned flawlessly afterwards.

The Premier II and the Valor come from 2 different methodologies to making 1911's. Valor's are machined much more precisely and require little hand fitting. It looks and feels like a more modern 1911. The Premier II has parts that are machined bigger than they need to be and are then custom fitted into the weapon. There is a lot more hand fitting done to it, and it feels like a more traditional 1911.

Both are great pistols. Pick the one that fits your role better. I've had no experience with STI or Kimber. Be sure to check out the 2011 Severns Custom shootout thread on 1911forum.com. It has a good comparison of top of the line pistols to include 2 Dan Wessons and 2 Les Baer's.

thanks for the info! why would the valor be overkill? if i`m looking for a target pistol, would not the more precise fitting give you more of an accurate pistol? or is it that all the more precise parts of the valor will out shoot most  shooter themselves?  i found a valor 300 dollars less than the premier and it it still a new one.

did you use different loads with the valor? my reason for the adj. sights is that i reload my own stuff and i want to be able to adj. the sights instead of changing my aimpoint.

also, i`m looking to use this pistol for shooting at 25-50 yds out. it is not being used for 7-10 yds defensive shooting. thats why i want the most accurate pistol i can get for under 2k.

The reason I say the Valor would be overkill is because of the defensive night sights and the duty coating(if you were looking at that model). It wouldn't make sense to cough up all that money for a premium 1911 just to end up changing the sights on it, or to have the duty coat on a range gun. The Premier II is designed much more in line with your intended use. Nice adjustable sights, tight fitting with precise handwork done and a simple(and beautiful) blued finish. If you go with a stainless Valor and just decide to keep the night sights then that could be an option too, but if you want the adjustable sights I would save the hassle and just go with the Premier II.

Honestly I don't think you will realistically see a difference in the accuracy between the two. However, bang on accuracy isn't my focus so your results may vary. I haven't gotten into reloading yet. Just factory ammo through both of mine, and I didn't do any shooting to test the ultimate accuracy of each(mostly shooting plates and silhouettes for this guy). Both of those issues are covered in the Severns thread posted above.

thanks for the help. just got an email from a dealer for a valor. price is 1512. its for the stainless ver. if accuracy is about the same, it doesn`t seem prudent to spend 300-400 more for the premier ii. i`m like you, my shooting is for plates and sils also. but i still like to cut holes a lot or see just how good a gun will shoot.

went to my local dealer and he has a premier ii so i got to handle it. awesome piece. but he won`t budge on price. 1900 for it. seen some on the web but just for a few dollars less.

thanks again for the help and the link.

just got through reading the link.     BUYING THE VALOR TOMORROW!

Yeah that thread sold me on the Valor too. 1900 is pretty high for the Premier II. I paid 1450 for mine, so they can be found for less. The Valor will serve you well though

thats what i thought. guns america has them for between 1650-1800some. but the only dealers that i saw were from pa. thats where i`m from and i don`t want to have to pay sales tax if i don`t have to. that is about $70 i can save if i find one from another state.  i`ll keep looking. how long ago did you find your premier? and where at?

I bought mine in July 2010. I got it from a local mom and pop shop. They had gotten a deal on it at the SHOT show and had just gotten it in.

Interesting, the Valor is very very impressive.

In fact I'd say it's drool worthy.

The same custom gunsmith did another in depth review of leading brand pistols.  It is said the worst part on a Valor is an Ed Brown part.

I picked mine up Friday and shot yesterday. No issues. Shot a bit to the left of POI but elevation was right at the top of the front sight. Nothing short of perfect.

hi you jealous guys got my valor last thursday. shot it yesterday. un-freakin believable pistol!  set up a target appx 30yds out( just to make it tough) from a sand bag rest i shot 3 groups of 5 rds. each. all groups were less than 1 1/2 in. i don`t shoot this well with other guns of the semi persuasion. then i set up my plate rack a 25yds. it has 6 plates each 6 in in dia. went through the rack 5 times( off hand) before i missed.

i needless to say was very impressed with it. worth every penny
