Cheap quasi reliable bullet throwers... FUCK UGLY and there are many many MANY better weapons to be had for not much more money.

Buy one if thats all you can afford. But if you can wait I suggest saving your money for a Ruger or Sigma.

I have 9mm I bought 12 years ago shot several hundred rounds through it no problems, but it is a cheap weapon and would not use for self defence just a good target shooter.

You got me wrong guys, not looking to buy one ,was just seeing the reaction.I've got the right choice of side arms at hand. And the big f no was uncalled for.

I have never shot or owned one of their pistols but do own one of their carbines and am quite happy with it. My .40 carbine is accurate and hasn't malfunctioned once on me.

ive got a JHP 45 and ive never had a problem with it, it eats everything and is pretty accurate, i wouldnt reach for one if i had a chance to carry a glock but i wouldnt feel under gunned if it was all i had. most of the "fuck nos" are from people who dont have one or heard from someone they suck. and the lifetime warrenty is awsome. anyway, its only 180 bucks, so what if it dosent work? sell it and youre only out a little bit. i bet youll like it, but put a houge handall on it to make it more comfortable, thats my only beef

I have .40 carbine too.  My son talked me into buying it.  It's a great little rifle.  As chumpmiester said, it's very accurate with the open sites and no failures or jams yet after several hundred rounds.  It's a keeper.

My dad has a .45

Ive shot it some, he has shot it quite a bit and hasnt had any problems at all with it.

They are just damn ugly

I have the steel frame .40.... $80 OTD used.... for what, don't know. Obviously holstered A LOT as there is a lot of wear externally.

Throws 40S&W down range just as well as one friends Glock 22 and another's Sig P226. Difference is I can keep it on target better as the heavy SOB has significantly less felt recoil.

I like mine. (1) FTF that was an ammo issue. No other problems.

USA Made w/ no questions asked lifetime warrenty. I can deal with ugly.

I got a 9mm pistol I keep in the truck...

It goes bang everytime I pull the trigger...
It has never misfired...

It is what it is... nothing more, nothing less...

Heck, I like the .40 carbine so much I bought a .40 pistol last night.  I haven't shot it yet but I wanted an inexpensive hand gun for camping in the boonies.

I have the C-9.  Its comfortable to shot but is not acurate.  It shoots about 6-8 inches low but never had a malfunction.  I now use it with 9mm shot shells. kinda fun at the range.
2/6/2008 9:14:55 PM EDT
[#14]
Had a C-9, it fired every time but dang it felt funny to shoot.  It had a different recoil pulse than my Glock or Smith. The accuracy sucked but the ghost ring rear sight was a hoot on a 5" sight radius handgun.

F7, please. What is a JHP 45? Do you just have one round?

Save up a little more and get something better. No need in finding out the hard way and then "being out a little bit".

After OWNING one, yeah, hit the nail on the head. With deals on police trade-in Glocks out there to be found, there is no need to buy a High Point.

See I dunno why so many armed forces have not picked them up, but I would not like my home country's army (Turkey) to use them that would be embarrassing.

Its funny to see how some people call them junk and most of them have no personal experience with them. We sell alot of hi points and honestly i can say more people have problems with there taurus, or there ruger, or there s&w sigma than they do hi point. They are big, heavy, and ugly but apparently they work. Hands down, there is nothing else in that price range that is better.

I dont own any, never will, but doesnt mean i cant have an open mind.

Any company that gives you a lifetime warranty is alright with me

My Cousin just bought one in 45ACP.

Eh...he seems to like it though it is his first handgun.  Thus far he has had no FTF or other issues (so he says).

ImpactGuns has them for $150.  He paid $265 at the local NWFL rip off shop.  He also got an extra clip (not my words).

For $150 I'd say they are a bargain basement shooter.  American made, life time warranty and it shoots.  I remember when CZ was considered the bargain basement of handguns (I own many CZ's and I like them).  Maybe (big maybe) Hi-Point (American Arms ?) will eventually be a good American gun company.  Maybe.

.02 through the grape vine.

Well at least it is an American design at this rate us Turks are starting to build more handguns then you guys.

Im not a big pistol guy so i thought one of these would be good to just keep in the truck.  I have had my C9 for about 2 months now and i have shot probably 600 to 700 rounds through it (cheap wolf) and have not had one FTF or any problems of anykind.
Its a excellent gun for the price and does what it is meant to do, and if it doesn't send it back and they will fix the problem.  Does ruger, s&w, or anybody else do this.

Sig and Glock do.  Though for a lot more money up front.

I hate gun snobs, and I try not to be one.  I hope Hi-Point turns out to be a good gun company.  I think we could use a functional, affordable, made in the USA full size handgun.

That said, I understand Hi-Point is in the process of being bought by "American Arms" ?  Anyone have more info?

I have a 995, purely for plinking, and it is one stout little gun.

I would conservitavely estimate ~8000 rounds through it w/o any FTE or FTF issues.  The firing pin spring started to give me light strikes at times and Hi Point replaced it, no questions asked, in about two days.  There was a point in time where there were probably ~2000 rounds through it and it hadn't been cleaned.  What did it do?  Go bang everytime.  I shot every conceivable type of round through it, Wolf, FMJ, JHP, even LRN reloads, and it never complained.  Not bad for a $180 investment.

If the construction of their carbines are any indication of the construction of their pistols, then they are on to a good thing.

Something to keep in mind is that not everyone has the good fortune that some of us do when it comes to how much disposable income we have.  If the budget is ~$200, then having a Hi Point is better than having nothing.  Think about this as well.  A person/family with a ~$200 budget for a weapon could indeed save up for a ~$500 Glock, or more for something else.  Is it better to be unarmed in the interim while saving the extra money, or have something that has the possiblity of saving the lives of your family and/or you?  If all else fails, you can throw the damned thing at somebody and knock them out cold.

It doesn't take a whole lot of searching on this forum, and others as well, to find people bithcing about their XDs, Glocks, and many other top flight pistols, that are having issues.

Those that are too good to be seen riding this moped in public will no doubt flame away...

I would get one if I had an extra chunk of change laying around. I don't have disposable income so.......I'm not totally opposed to them but it's like the Joke about the fat girl and the moped.  They're fun until your friends see you riding one. I do have a 995 and I really like it.  If it had high cap mags it would a heck of a lot better.  It has never jammed even with wolf.  Never really "cleaned" , just sprayed a couple of times.  I've had it since 96'.
3/25/2008 6:36:19 PM EDT
[#30]
I may buy the 9mm carbine. I have no need for any of their pistols though. I am glad to see an American company with a good warrenty and I have always heard they are reliable. I can buy a 9mm Hi-point carbine for $200, or convert my AR to 9mm for, oh lets see, $500~ You do the math. Plus I'd have to SBR my AR to get it that small.

My C-9 is unstoppable.  I generally don't care what a gun looks like.  I don't look at them while jerking off.

The grips are a little slick for my tastes.  I might wrap some hockey tape around them.
4/2/2008 6:20:56 PM EDT
[#33]
I personally own 2, a C9 and a .45.  The C9 fits my hand great with a Hogue slip on grip and the .45 is getting one too.  Most of the bad rep they have is from the old design (the old metal framed guns)  the new ones with the poly frame have a better record.  The company has a great record for warranty work.  As far as I know they are the only company that will take a gun thats been totally abused by its 40th owner and totally go through it and make it like new again.  All for the cost of shipping...plus they usually throw in a new mag or two to help cover that cost.  Just my .002

Flame on...

I have a C-9 and the 9 carbine both have never failed and have so much fun with both plus if you drop it and scatch it you wont be that mad at your self. I like them and Im not afraid to say it.

I have the .45 ACP JHP many rounds shot with it, goes bang every time I pull the trigger I did have some trouble with Wolf ammo 1 time.
It is not a tack driver but I can shoot a 4 in group at 10 yards and to me that is tight enough for a .45 to drop it's intended targetht
I guess if you look a the price tags of guns it makes  my SAIGA a POS also

I have one, a .380. It's ugly & poorly balanced - the plastic grip makes the huge top feel even heavier. It just feels cheap.

But the thing goes "bang" and hits in the right general vicinity.

4/16/2008 4:05:28 PM EDT
[#41]
Yea it's ugly and heavy and is not as pretty as a $2500 Wilson Combat but you are just as dead if shot by the High Point as you would be with the Wilson Combat. As for accuracy I watched a guy at our monthly IPSC get together put rounds withing 1 inch at 15-20 yards. Go figure.

They are, by all accounts, reliable and reasonably accurate gun.  They're cheap, have an exceptional warranty, an are 100% made in America.  If I didn't have a gun and all I had was $150-$200 to spend, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

Which mirrors my situation fairly closely which is why I'm thinking about getting one.

I have a 995 carbine, and I enjoy it.  It's ugly as all get out, but I've had some fun adding a ATI stock, red dot and vertical grip on it.  It's inexpensive and fun.  Pretty accurate, and I get lots of positive attention at the range.

Heres a pic of my Hi Point 995. Out of the 3 mags it came one was bad and caused mis feeds. Once I axed that one I never had a problem again. I own many "better" guns such as Remmingtons or Brownings but this one is just as fun to shoot. Everyone wants to try it when I have it at the range and most people think its a blast. http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x245/bripro/DSCN2913.jpg

Had a 40 carbine. It had issues with feeding and I didn't want to take the time to fix it so I sold it. The guy that bought it loves it and I frequently get range reports back from him.
