First time Kahr owner, cleaning my CW45 last weekend and tried breaking it down per the instructions in the owners manual. After pulling the slide back the next step is to tap out the slide release pin, anyone have a hint on how to do this without a third hand? I tried tapping it out with the butt end of a screwdriver but it won't budge, I was gonna try my tack hammer but don't want to marr the side and I don't have another hand free to place something over the slide pin before I start tapping. I have an el cheapo gun vise but it's almost impossible to hold the slide open at exactly the right position and get access to the pin.
I have a 3" 1911 and the initial dissasemly is very similar as well as them being almost identical in size. And both are similar in that's a little difficult to get the slide stop started to slide out. Since the Kahr has a polymer frame that doesn't scratch as easily as a metal frame on the 1911, I usually use a small flat screwdriver to wedge it out after pushing out by hand just slightly. Doesn't take much pressure and usually slides right out once you get it started.
The above link is good info to have but doesn't address the issue of getting the slide stop out. I tried using a large flat punch to put pressure but still can't get the pin to budge. I have a small tack hammer and placed a plastic cover over the head, should let me rap on the pin hard enough to loosen it without scratching the gun. I may try carving out a wood block to place in the ejection port to hold the slide open at the right point if this gets too complicated. Once it comes out and I can put some lube on it so it shouldn't be a fight next time.
