I just bought the CW40 for CCW. I read about the 200-round break in, so I took it to the range to break it in. Well, first problem is that it drops the magazine after every shot unless I keep pressure on the magazine with my little finger. I searched this forum and can't get any results so far that shows that anyone else has seen this problem. Internet search engines show that someone has mentioned it, but no luck finding the post. I called Kahr, and they are sending me a new slide stop (polished down as bit) and a new magazine catch. For those of you interested in the amount of kick that this thing has: after 100 rounds, the finger guard finally tore off a small piece of skin on the forward side of my trigger finger. Ouch. If you go to break in your CW40, take a small band-aid. You might just need it. It is my first DAO gun, so it takes some getting used to. |

I recieved my parts from Kahr, including a spare magazine I ordered. I swapped out the slide stop that the rep told me would cause the problem I had. That did not fix the problem. He also sent me a new slide stop spring and new feed ramps for magazines as well as new magazine release button. I didn't change those out. I tried the new magazine I ordered, which was a seven-round magazine for a different .40 Kahr pistol. It did not drop out. In order to insert the original magazine, I have to put some pressure on it to get the magazine to engage the retention. It lets the magazine drop out every time I fire the gun. The new magazine feels kind of sloppy in the handgrip, but it does not drop out and it feed ammo...... unless I fill the magazine with all seven rounds. When I do that, the first round fails to feed. As the slide moves forward to engage the round and push it forward, the first round noses down and hangs the slide. I am bummed out about this gun. It seems like the whole problem is that my original magazine is a few thousandths too short. I hesitate to trim off any of the plastic on the bottom to give it that few thousandths slack, as I am leaning toward taking this gun back. On a side note, I also ordered a IWB holster and the finger extensions for the magazines at the same time I ordered the spare mag. I recieved the spare mag, but no finger extensions or holster has shown up. No note as to why or when I can expect the rest of my order. Is this typical of orders from Kahr? Tell me that my situation is a fluke and that Kahr is not normally like this! |

For any of you paying attention to my thread, I fixed the problem. I took the magazine apart and sanded down the bottom plastic piece. I removed about .030 of material so that the magazine fits into the handle much easier. I fired six quick rounds through it and the magazine stayed in. Now, if only the other items I ordered would come in, I'd be set. I can't help but wonder if anyone else who purchased the CW40 had this problem.??? |
Yes, you have the correct ammo. .45 auto is synonymous with .45ACP (automatic colt pistol) |

Steve1300: Thats good you got it running, looks like with some free spare parts. I've had good service as far as getting warranty replacement parts (new slide). But the pro-shop side of the house must have fallen off the face of the earth. Still waiting on a full length guide rod for 2 of my MK9's. As far as mags and holsters, I usually get those 3rd party. We have a guy at the gun shows that sells Kahr factory mags, 3-4 cheaper than from the factory. |
| kinda uncommon occurance for the kahrs, but I can see how it could happen. Kel-tec are very notorious for the magazine problem, all due to to much plastic either on the bottom of the grip or the magazine floor plate. You did the right thing in fixing it urself. Still a good gun and one that just needed alitte tweeking, for the better part though the handgun does go bang every time--doesn't it?? Everything else normally can be tweeked out in house. Lube it up good for range shootig, mine with 8200 flawless rounds is my ccw and range gun and when I go the range i tend to give it more oil on the slides than I would if carrying. A retired 40 year gun dealer and IMO one of the finest handguns, I have ever put my hands around. So small, so lite, so accurate and so quality built... |
